Is the Super Bowl, like July 4th, still a patriotic celebration of National Pride?

In the past, we've seen many patriotic symbols at Super Bowls, such as the unfurling of giant U.S. flags, military fly overs, honoring of military branches and those who have served, ... and lots of red, white and blue.

Does the Super Bowl still invoke feelings of national pride?

No

Why should it? This isn't an international competition.

Our tax dollars are wasted on the flyovers, patriotic symbols, etc.. It's meant as a recruitment tool. I'd rather see the money spent elsewhere.

It is our most popular spectator sport, and a uniquely American national event.

In comparison, Americans show little interest in international sporting events, like Soccer's World Cup, the Olympics, tennis or golf.

Recruiting tool? ... how many people do you know that joined the military because of Super Bowl festivities.

I can only speak for myself but it never was for me.
I had no issue with any of the above mentioned stuff but it was only ever a football event for me.

I agree with this. The NFL has one goal in mind with the Super Bowl and that's to draw the most viewers possible as viewers equate to dollars. They're not in the business of partnering with the government to make it a rah-rah America event.

Now in the past they have had some vignettes during the pregame that some felt were over the top patriotism. On the whole its a very uniting event in the sense many non sports fans watch whether for the spectacle, half time performance or commercials so it brings people together.

But I don't really see it as comparable to 4th of July.

Americans don't really follow soccer until the women's team is in the finals. Same for tennis. Everyone watches most Olympic events where Americans are expected to do well.

The military doesn't have much of a record of acting in an intelligent manner w/respect to taxpayer dollars. They state that the waste of millions of dollars in every sporting event is meant as a recruiting tool

Close to 100 million people in the U.S. watch the Super Bowl. You are just making stuff up.

Do you have a gov't source that shows that "military statement"?

Obvious lie.

Selling UTOPIA thus proving that they are the good people.

I tried to explain marketing, advertising, targeted demographics, brand loyalty, the importance of getting new young viewers, and the unimportance of the over 50 demographic to most Corps. IIRC, you're pretty good at that stuff. Maybe you can explain it better.

All these years I thought the Super Bowl was football, not soccer. This is really embarrassing.

Do you have a gov't source that shows that "military statement"?
Do your homework. How can you start a discussion, and be so clueless?

Oh, wait.

I expect that it will be homosexuals, trans, LGBQXYZ and other forms of perversion celebrated.

I will watch the football but not the halftime.

Earl only wishes he had a sex life- with anyone other than just himself!
