Is it too early to already declare the worst thing of the year?

Castro promised democracy and delivered socialism.
Lenin promised democracy, and when his party lost the elections, he delivered socialism.
North Korea skipped the elections, and went with hereditary socialism.

First of all, democracy and socialism are NOT opposites.

Socialism and capitalism are economic systems [and they usually run in parallel anyway]. They're not systems of government.
Democracy and various genres of authoritarianism are systems of government, not economic systems.

When you contrast socialism and democracy, you're contrasting apples and oranges.
Why do so many populist conservatives do this? Is it an education thing?

Because socialism means the gov't owns the means of production, and capitalism is based on PRIVATE property rights. So they are forms of gov't that go far beyond just economics.

I don't understand why I see so many posts with absolutely no text.

How is everybody else seeing it?

Is it because they're on phones instead of laptops?

The government is censoring you phone for you. Tell them "Thank you" or...

Where do you get these primitive ideas?

Social Security, Medicare, and Veterans Adminisstration are all socialism.

The entire public sector is socialism, including police, fire, public schools, the military, and all level of government.

Yet, somehow, through all of that, The New York Stock exchange still exists.
So do small businesses like bakeries, barber shops, and hardware stores.

How is that possible?

Government is government and economics are economics.

None of them are means of production owned by the Federal gov't. :dunno:

And does the Fed gov't own my SS money? ... just because LBJ destroyed the SS lockbox?

The military buys everything from the private sector.

Exactly, which is why your outdated definitions don't begin to apply.

Democratic socialism thrives throughout the world--just not in backward America--and those nations all have a thriving private sector..

So you are changing the definition of socialism to some new definition? :dunno:

Got it. I use my mobile to order take out on my way home or to call AAA to fix a flat....period.

Land line comes with my cable and internet, and that's still my primary phone.

I was born in 1946, and it may as well have been 1926 in my case!
