The Social Security Administration announced Monday that it will immediately cease efforts to collect on taxpayers’ debts to the government that are more than 10 years old.

The action comes after The Washington Post reported that the government was seizing state and federal tax refunds that were on their way to about 400,000 Americans who had relatives who owed money to the Social Security agency. In many cases, the people whose refunds were intercepted had never heard of any debt, and the debts dated as far back as the middle of the past century.

Like the land grab, the gobblement will cave once the bright light is shown on their misdeeds. This is the kind of thing the press should be doing, but unfortunately they have mostly carried the democrats water. Kudos to the Washington Post for bringing to light.

However it is an indictment that I have to credit them with actually doing their job

I'm so old I remember when it was a positive thing for the government to identify and correct waste, fraud and abuse in its programs.

The IRS has been holding back refunds for old debts forever and debts from parents etc.
Theres a key here adjust your taxs so you dont get refunds. Its not hard to do, I actually prefer to "OWE" them a few hundred everyear and just pay it. Some people I know get thousands back in refunds and think they are doing swell.

wasn't there something discussed during the creation of our constitution about misdeeds not being passed on by blood? like strapping your children for any crimes you committed?

Being responsible for the debts of others in your family is just so wrong it defies the imagination that even liberal pinheads would defend the practice no matter who the fuck the president is or what party he represents.....
and the 10 year limitation is just so much bullshit....1, 10 or 100 years, the practice itself is just wrong.
