Has anyone heard about the IRS confiscating money from your refund checks for money that your deceased parents might have owed the gov.?

Two months ago, Mary Grice, a career employee at the Food and Drug Administration, was notified the U.S. Treasury had confiscated her state and federal tax refunds totaling $4,500.
The government had taken the money before she knew there was a problem.
"To be honest, I was ticked off," Grice said. "I'm like 'how can they intercept or take my funds without my first being notified about it?'"

The claim against her came from the Social Security Administration which said it overpaid death benefits to Mary's family after her father Scott Grice died in 1960. Mary was five years old. In other words, without notice and for a debt that was not hers, the government had her refund seized anyway.

I'm so old I remember when it was a positive thing for the government to identify and correct waste, fraud and abuse in its programs.

The IRS has been holding back refunds for old debts forever and debts from parents etc.
Theres a key here adjust your taxs so you dont get refunds. Its not hard to do, I actually prefer to "OWE" them a few hundred everyear and just pay it. Some people I know get thousands back in refunds and think they are doing swell.

I remember when "statute of limitations" meant just that, when children weren't held responsible for GovCo's mistakes that benefited their parents, when GovCo had to prove their case with proper accounting, and when even liberals didn't make piss-poor excuses for an overbearing government, even when their chosen candidate was in office.

wasn't there something discussed during the creation of our constitution about misdeeds not being passed on by blood? like strapping your children for any crimes you committed?

There used to be a 10 year statute of limitations. It was repealed in a recent billed. Tucked away like so many things get tucked away. This whole thing seems very arbitrary and unfair but I am not surprised the left looks the other way. They have no choice now. They are all in

Sorry deleted other post, it was off topic.

This is a practice that has been done for sometime. They garnish your wages and then you are the one responsible for correcting the error or proving the IRS made an error.

Really so you wouldn't mind being on the hook for some debt they claimed you owed and then you wouldn't also mind having to have the burden of proof?

How magnanimous of you
