After a slow start, the influx of Syrians to the U.S. has accelerated in recent months, and annual arrivals are likely to reach 10,000 by the end of September, the amount that was promised by the Obama administration.
Last year, the U.S. pledged to resettle 85,000 refugees from all over the world in the fiscal year that began on Oct. 1, including at least 10,000 Syrian refugees.
By March 31, halfway through the fiscal year, only 1,285 Syrians had arrived, according to official data. By June 30, the Syrian number had jumped to 5,211. Overall refugee admissions had reached 49,791.

Six refugees in Wisconsin were diagnosed with multi-drug resistant (MDR) tuberculosis (TB) in 2014 and 2015, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.
As Breitbart News reported previously, twenty-one additional refugees in Wisconsin were diagnosed with active TB during the same time period, making the Badger State the refugee TB capital of the country, at least among the handful of states that have so far reported that data.
Other states that have reported active TB among refugees include Louisiana (21), Vermont (17), Colorado (16), Florida (11), Kentucky (9 in one county), Idaho (7), Indiana (4), and North Dakota (4 in one county). Breitbart News is still awaiting refugee active TB data from the remaining 41 states.
MDR TB is not always curable, and requires long and expensive treatment.
Active TB that is not drug resistant can be cured with four drugs over nine months at a cost of $17,000 per patient.
MDR TB requires 20 to 26 months of treatment at a cost of $150,000 per patient.

CLEVELAND, Ohio–Eleven refugees have been diagnosed with active tuberculosis in Summit County, Ohio, over the past six years, Dr. Margo Erme, medical director of the Summit County Public Health Department tells Breitbart News.
The cases of active and communicable tuberculosis were in the county that holds Akron, with a population of 199,000. It is the largest city in Summit County, population 541,000.
The county lies immediately to the south of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County. Many of the delegates and members of the media attending the Republican National Convention held in Cleveland this week are staying at hotels in Summit County and are shuttled on buses thirty plus miles each way.

MURRIETA, Calif. — Suddenly, this city in the desert has become the place that turned away the immigrants.
When the three busloads of immigrant mothers and children rolled into town for processing at a Border Patrol station this week, they were met by protesters carrying American flags and signs proclaiming “return to sender” as they screamed “go home” and chanted “U.S.A.” Fearing for the safety of the migrants and federal officers, immigration officials decided to reroute the buses to San Diego, an hour south.
And a day after many here celebrated what they saw as a temporary victory, more than a thousand residents packed a high school auditorium on Wednesday night for a town-hall-style meeting that lasted more than four hours, voicing fears about an influx of migrants.
“What happens when they come here with diseases and can overrun our schools? How much is this costing us?” one resident, Jodie Howard, asked the mayor.
“How do you know they are really families and aren’t some kind of gang or drug cartel?” another person asked federal officials.
After a Border Patrol official explained that more buses would probably arrive in Murrieta in the coming weeks as part of an attempt to relieve processing centers near the Texas border, one man took to the microphone and demanded to know: “Why do we have to put them on a bus to Murrieta? Why can’t we just transport them on a bus to Tijuana?” The crowd responded with thunderous applause.
As federal officials have begun to send the expected 240,000 migrants and 52,000 unaccompanied minors who have crossed the border illegally in recent months in the Rio Grande Valley to cities around the county, Murrieta so far is the only place that has managed to turn them away.

Illegal immigration across the southwest border surged 10 percent in August, defying the usual pattern of a late-summer slowdown as the Obama administration struggles to keep families from pouring in from Central America.
Nearly 10,000 people traveling as families were caught last month, and some 68,080 have been caught in the first 11 months of fiscal 2016. That makes it almost certain the record, set in 2014, will be broken at the end of September.
Analysts say ongoing violence in Central America is pushing migrants to flee, and lax enforcement in the U.S. is enticing them to come here.
The situation is so bad that an administration lawyer told a federal appeals court this summer that adult illegal immigrants are kidnapping children as they make their way north, so they can pose as families and earn easier treatment here.
The number of unaccompanied illegal immigrant children apprehended at the border also rose in August, though the pace was slower. About 5,800 children caught while traveling without parents for the month, bringing the total so far this year to 54,052.
