Indiana Girl's National Anthem Rendition Stirs Flap

Exactly. I liked it and thought she did a good job. It seems the crowd did too. If I can listen to some Irish guy sing "God Bless America" at baseball games I can definitely listen to this little girl's rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.

see post to Damo and posts to toppy...

Am I the only one to notice the youtube Winter posted was her singing the anthem in her own gym?

Ya bunch of lollygaggers...

gay biker riding and changing arguments are typical.

That rendition was easily normal enough to suspect what I and many others did. Odd that only hard core righties pulled out the "overused race card BS".

Your ill-diguised intentional provocation is boring and tedious, Topper.

If you had an edge, it's long gone.

You're duller than a butter knife, dude.

That is such bullshit. To say it is simply because of her race is ridiculous. Good Luck is correct. Yes, the people who complained were most likely white. Yes, the girl is black. The fact that you focus purely on the RACE of the people involved shows how fucking closed minded you are. There are indeed people who want everyone to sing the anthem the same way every time. To suggest that they complained JUST because she is black shows your own racist tendencies.

Mott also tosses out bullshit. Yes, there are indeed racists in Indiana. Just as there are in Ohio and every other fucking state. But to simply knee jerk react and pretend this is racism is racist in and of itself. It is a pathetic mindset.

Also... what Good Luck stated was not in any way racist. If anything it was the complete opposite. He was telling you to quit focusing so hard on skin pigmentation and to quit trying to blame everything that occurs between different races on race itself. It is akin to a woman falsely claiming she was raped.
Oh no, no one would EVER DREAM of being a racist in southern Indiana. There as pure as the driven snow there. Why it's just completely unthinkable that there be any possibility at all of these folks who complained opinion being the least little bit tainted by "gasp" racism!

Ya know denial isn't just a river in Egypt and I defy you to explain to me what other possible motivation they could of had for complaining about her performance. Was it that she was half a beat off? Was it the color of her shirt? The fact she sang it singing up? Oh good lord it must be that she sang it Acappella!! Her being black? Oh goodness no! That's just a fantastic coincidence!

I don't know who disgusts me more on the issue of race. The actual hood carrying Klansman or you ostrich brained enablers with your heads in the sand. You can spin this on the head of a pin and deny it till the cows come home but pal I'm a believer in Occam's razor and I know what the obvious explanation is to me.

Personally, I prefer to hear the anthem sung just as it was written. It would have been interesting over the years to have seen if all the pop, country/western, soul, rock, folk, jazz, etc., artist actually had the chops to pull that off. Case in point: although I'm not a fan of her music per se, Jewell has some serious vocal chops, as I once heard her pull of a little classic opera styling that perked up my ears. I bet she would do the anthem proud.

But that's my personal taste....and there is no accounting for taste, I'm told.

That being said, the kid at the center of this controversy was IMHO mediocre at best. All the hoop-la against her can be taken with whatever knowledge people have of the area and the mindset history of those who raised a stink.

Oh well, I'm sure they'll all settle it like children.

It's the way high schools are these days: the administration caves in on one stupid complaint. They don't want to offend anyone, and so they offend everyone.

Again... moron... my point is NOT that there aren't racists there. My point IS that it is moronic to simply cry racism without ANY evidence to support it.

It is one thing to state... 'it could be due to racism'... it is quite another thing to say 'THEY ARE RACISTS!!!'.

Like toppy, you are projecting YOUR own racist mindset onto others. You see her as a BLACK girl. Not a girl. You see the crowd as a WHITE crowd. You like feeling superior by shouting out about the evil racists. The problem is... the racist is YOU. All you see is a difference in pigmentation and thus you run to the front of the room screaming RACISTS!

I am not enabling racists you moron. I am telling you not to shout racism without knowing that was the reason. Because if you are wrong... you diminish and insult those who are subject to actual racism and you dilute the impact of the actual events. If you blame EVERY conflict between black and white as racism, will anyone ever believe you when it actually is? Or will they simply tune it out because it is your standard MO?

By covering up racist behavior by screaming racism whether it happened or not, YOU are the one enabling the actual racists to slide on by. Which is exactly what a racist like you would want I suppose.

You are pathetic, just like toppy.
