I'll be damned...the most brutal of the Delhi gang rapists is Muslim.

Hey Tom if you're so worried about Syria, disband the Royals, tell Kate and Willie to get a job, and use the money to go invade and occupy Syria! Leave us the eff out of it, we're not the world's bodyguard!

And oh just by the way? Send YOUR sons to fight the damned thing too!

Trust you to jump in with your Doc Martin boots, that you can't come up with a serious answer is not surprising to me. I wasn't actually proposing anything other than trying to get Desh to get beyond slogans and empty words. If you don't think that a fundamentalist regime in Syria is not a problem then that's more to do with your ignorance and parochialism than anything else.

Yeah, just keep taking phrases out of context and mis-representing what I say if it makes you feel better.....typical mo of the pinheads.....

The bullshit is your narrow-minded belief that rape is ALL about violence and control and not about sex.....thats whats bullshit.....

One man's opinion does not make conclusive evidence.

your analogy would only have some validity if you said, what happened to the young women in India represents "Indian values" and comparing it to
if something happened in Ohio representing Ohio values.....

Its not the location that is at issue, it IS the culture of the twisted assholes that committed the rape.....a culture driven and nurtured and condoned by the Islamic religion....
values instilled in the followers from birth to adulthood until it becomes an obsession. A culture that is common to the Middle East and permeates the region, and not
just Muslims.....

Catholicism isn't a culture nor is Christianity in general

Come back when you've actually read or researched thoroughly all sources, not just the ones you agree with. As somebody likes to say, "no matter how flat you make a pancake it still has two sides".

I'm sure some of these people could cite chapter and verse on Islam violence, yet completely ignore that of any other religion. As examples:

Spanish Inquisition
Huguenots
Puritan witch trials
Crusades
St. Bartholomew's Day massacre
European wars of religion
Haun's Hill massacre
Mountain Meadows massacre
Sétif massacre

Is it really your aim to go back in history hundreds and thousands of years to defend the Islamic barbarians of 2013 ?.....Crusades?...Spanish Inquisition?, etc....

I thought you of all people could do better than that.

Fashion and or dresses isn't the point....the point is that travelers on public transportation USED to respect their fellow travelers by taking a bath and donning clean clothes
so they wouldn't offend others by stinking up a bus or airplane with BO and bad breath.....unlike you.
That civility is gone because of liberal asswipes that believe anything goes, it is feels good, do it.....how I dress or smell is my business.....

The respect for others is missing

Of course. All the millwrights and coal miners riding the bus home from work had on three-piece suits. What planet are you living on?

THE QUR'AN DOES NOT CONDONE RAPE! Are you stupid or what?

Violence and subjugation of women in some societies pre-dates Islam and is 100% a product of male patriarchal beliefs.

You can't be talking to me...I didn't mention the Quran.....
And in reality, the Quran will take on any meaning the religious leaders want it to take on....just as the Bible is mis-interpreted to support whatever one wants it to support...

Then stop bringing up all this crap about Muhammad being a warlord and conversion by the sword. Because if you want to compare what happened in 627 A.D. to today's barbarians, then prepare to tar all barbarians with the same brush no matter what the religion.

Nobody would be happy about that except other fundamentalists or profiteers. The questions are, who should stop what's going on there? Do other countries have a responsibility to jump in, and which countries?

I was just posing the question because it is very likely to be more than just a theory very soon. BAC was railing for months about intervention in Libya helping AQ in Benghazi yet the exact opposite policy in Syria is seemingly about to cause the fundamentalists to come to the fore. I hope to hell that doesn't happen as it is a truly nightmare scenario that should truly frighten anyone. Here is a thoughtful article from Ya Libnan based in Beirut speculating about how to deal with the chemical weapons that Syria has and how to stop them getting into terrorist hands.

We just had a thread about some high school football players raping a passed out party goer....that didn't remember or realize she was raped until a video
showed up at the school......so was that rape about violence ?...Control ?....hardly...it was about SEX.....so my "opinion" is not only reasonable, its valid.

Oh now you are talking like a feminazi!

That OP just set my teeth on edge. He says nothing about the religion of five of the men, but produces an unsubstantiated article that the sixth was a Muslim as undisputed truth.

But the main thing pissing me off is that this rape had everything to do with violent men and nothing to do with religion. It's just one more example of haters and their illogical beliefs.

I can't even keep my grammar straight here, I'm so outraged.

And you do it again, as usual......I didn't mention Muhammad either.....

Look sweetie...you'll never win a debate by lying and trying to put words in other people mouths and then saying they are wrong....
People can actually read what I say and KNOW you're a liar every time you do it.

You said: "...the fact that its condoned and commonplace in Islamic culture means nothing ?" Islamic "culture" is based on the Qur'an, numbnuts.

No, the fool was you with your inane rant about how people dress on public transportation.

There's nothing here I disagree with.

What bothers me is when men go on rants about Islam and then use that to trivialize the still terrible levels of sexual abuse and violence against women in the west. You haven't done that, but it's rampant on this board.

It's also very transparent. And offensive. Because it's announcing you don't care about women, you don't care about sexual violence, you don't care about abuse...you have a political agenda. And that's offensive, and I personally find it enraging.

But while highliging the underreporting of rape in Muslim countries, or non-Muslim countries like India, it's also important to remember that rape is very underreported right here! And then maybe question why. But few men want to ask those questions. They don't like the answers.

yes darla, but sometimes threads are about specific topics. In this case, I didn't make the op, but I got dragged into how describing religion can fuck up a society. That's my bread and butter. I don't usually like arguing about rape stuff, just not the type of argument I am drawn to. But I love religion bashing.

You need your head examined. Seriously.

Those a$$holes carried around that passed-out young woman to several parties, assaulted her, photographed her, allegedly urinated on her, and you think this is about sex?

Seek help, you're in dire need of it.

It may not have much to do with religion but I'm fairly sure it has a lot to do with caste and status, India is a very racist and status obsessed country. This article from RT states that rapes are incredibly common in New Delhi and are very rarely reported because of mistrust of the police and the shame it will bring to their families.
Officials have reportedly announced a series of measures aimed at making the city safer for women, including more police night patrols, checks on bus drivers and their assistants, and the banning of buses with tinted windows or curtains. The government has also set up a 13-member committee under a retired Supreme Court judge to recommend changes to the criminal law dealing with sexual crimes.
India's top court also said it could suspend lawmakers facing sexual assault charges.
But the core of the problem is seen by many protesters in the fact that women are viewed as second-class citizens, and only a fundamental change in culture and attitudes to women backed up by law could protect them.
New Delhi has a strong reputation as India’s rape capital, with a report from the Hindustan Times documenting more than 20 rape cases since December 16 in the city.
Victims of gang-rapes often do not come forward to the police in India for fear of shaming their families or being ignored by police. Moreover, cases are so widespread that they are rarely covered by the press.
Since the news of the brutal gang rape and murder broke in December, almost 300 Delhi women have applied for gun licenses, Delhi police said. Some 1,200 more have called the licensing department to inquire how to obtain one. Hundreds turned up at the police department seeking permission to get a gun for self-defense.

It's about kicks pure and simple and showing off to their buddies. Doesn't that sort of shit happen a lot during hazing week? What is very hard to understand is that pictures and video were passed around on FB between men and women who all seemed to find it hilarious. I believe it was Anonymous that outed the details.
