Ignorance and the Bible

Atheism is simply the lack of belief in God.
Correct. By definition, an "a" in front of a word means "not". Political vs apolitical. Apolitical means not political.

Theist vs atheist. atheist means you are not a theist and, by definition, don't believe in god.

However, Into the Nuthouse lives in a world of his own, where he creates reality to fit what he wants to believe.

If I go by what YOU claim then it is purely a belief of yours that "X" does not exist.

If you go by what I claim then it is simply a lack of belief in "X".

Just because Bjork told me there are elves I am under no obligation to believe any such claim. That does not make my position a belief itself. Even though there could be elves.

I can't make this more simple so I'm going to leave it at that. If you wish to tell me what my position is without any real apparent knowledge of my position I guess I'm going to have to leave it be. It's a "you" thing, and has nothing to do with my position.
no.'

you fucking hate elves and their moral code.

In my opinion, Democrats, or at least a vocal minority of them, are picking the wrong Hills to die on.

I've seen the Democratic ability to win in socially conservative Midwestern states erode for at least the last decade. I don't think it is a mystery why.

Mocking Christianity, supporting transgender swimmers on NCAA women's teams, proclaiming the superiority of militant secularism and materialism isn't going to win any elections.

Now that we are at the threshold of fascism, I'm not going to make bibles in Oklahoma schools the hill I want my party to die on. That can be pushed to the side and quietly pursued in the courts. What we need to do is win elections, and focus on things that used to allow Democrats to win in places like Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan.

You are never going to have social justice if you allow the country to be dominated by MAGA.

Gavin Newsome seems to have gotten the memo that beating back fascism is going to require things like gerrymandering and dropping the pretense that the party wants transgenders to have a constitutional right to swim on the Penn State women's team.
Agreed on the loss of our social justice in this country. Our institutions have been weaponized and filled with authoritarian toadies.

The Dems overplayed their hands on DEI, trans and gay issues and appeared weak on immigration. That’s their undoing.

If I go by what YOU claim then it is purely a belief of yours that "X" does not exist.

That makes no sense. You are making a logical mistake.

I said that I do not believe "x." I did not say that I do believe that "x" does not exist. You simply invented that part.

Let's give that a bit of life. I will substitute "any gods exist" for the "x."

I do not believe that any gods exist. (That is so, by the way. I do not.)

Are you suggesting that I therefore am saying, "I believe no god exist?" (Because I do not.)

Look at the wording.

I do not believe any gods exist...

...AND...

I do not believe there are no gods.

No contradiction there at all. Every agnostic can essentially say those same things if they choose.

TO EVERYONE:

My wife just came into the room and said, "Okay, Okay. Wipe that big grin off your face and let's go over to the store to do the food shopping."

Gotta go. Will be back in about an hour.

Play nice.

I feel that Pascal's Wager fails on theological grounds. Since it proposes that when one is faced with the choice that one will obviously choose to believe in God given the option of spending eternity in Hell. But I don't think that God would "accept" worship that was given that disingenuously. The critical piece in Christianity is that one must accept Christ's sacrifice, one must accept that one is fallen and in need of salvation and that salvation came through Christ's sacrifice. Which means you can't just "dial it in". You pretty much have to be all-in or not at all.

If someone was pointing a gun at my head and said "Love me wholeheartedly or I will shoot you", I assume I'm going to get shot despite my best efforts.

In the Bible, particularly in Matthew 5:34-37, Jesus teaches not to take oaths at all, emphasizing that one's word should be enough—simply saying "Yes" or "No" is sufficient. This teaching discourages the practice of swearing oaths, which can lead to dishonesty. Crossway Church of the Great God

The author of Matthew, whoever he was, never knew Jesus, never saw Jesus, never heard Jesus. Merely heresay from decades prior.

It is quite humorous that those who are the most ignorant on the Bible are those who profess to be Bible thumping Christians. The scholars, people who actually STUDY the Bible for a living, are mostly atheists. And they became atheists only AFTER their deep study led them to that conclusion.

If the Bible stories that defy all laws of science and nature were written today, by an author we could actually talk to about his veracity, we would label it as science fiction.

But, since it was written by several unknown authors 2000 years ago, the believers take it as fact. Delusional. Willfully ignorant. Intellectually lazy.

On today's episode of "Christophobic Atheist Bigots dictating what Christians must believe.."
