I have been working on a phrase that describes the real problem in American politics. My goal was simplicity and succinctness.
I think I have gotten it down to three words.
IDEOLOGY over REALITY
This is a serious problem on both sides of the isle. But, it describes Rump and his approach to governing. He does not care one inch about facts, only about his goal. The problem with this is that when those who govern become unattached to facts, they become unattached to reality. They develop an ideology and attach their ego to it, facts that would in the past cause people to reevaluate a portion of their ideology to allow governing to be reality based, the President (and many others) don't do this.
Its a problem with voters also because the result is ideologies that are completely un-tethered with reality. When it becomes more important to voters that their ideology wins, than work, the nation is fucked.
Its so much easier to "believe", something that supports your lifestyle, rather than change your lifestyle to fit reality.
