Idaho wants to make it illegal for schools to teach students how to think critically

Idaho lawmakers pushed through a bill that would bar schools from teaching about racism.

Some GOP lawmakers said discussions about racism are teaching kids to "hate their country," the Idaho Statesman reported.

Students, however, said the discussions on racism don't teach them to hate their country but instead allow them to have a more clear and accurate understanding of the US's history. That understanding, they said, is key so that wrongs can be corrected.

Does that include the Nazi concentration camps?

What would the students know? They're students. That's like the teacher asking students what they want to learn. The students are students exactly because they don't know what they should learn and don't have the background to know if what they're getting from teachers is "clear and accurate." They're learning, not versed in the subject.

"Make no mistake, this is self-awareness," Yvonne Shen, 13, said. "If we aren't able to recognize our own flaws, we will never be able to progress beyond them."

But Miss Shen, if you are fed a false narrative or nonsense, say like your teacher uses the 1619 Project a work of journalistic fiction as the basis for what you learned then you were propagandized and indoctrinated rather than learned historical fact and could make a rational decision based on those facts for yourself.

The theory acknowledges how slavery and segregation played a role in the current situation of Black Americans and other people of color.

Teabaggers (www.teaparty.org) are such retards, learning about racism isn't "hating" your country.

I guess teabaggers (www.teaparty.org) want to eliminate the history of the American Indian being given smallpox blankets in the 1800's too.

Just eliminate the history of the holocaust too.

I guess eliminate everything about covid-19 will be next.

A 13 year old makes better sense than teabaggers. (www.teaparty.org)

In Bold is utter nonsense they are in the spot they are becuase they continue to believe Democrats give a rip about them which is also utter nonsense and has brought on a generational welfare state, then you have the issue of absentee fathers in the black community, that also plays a part!

Only racists hate racial progress.

I argue that most of the textbooks are also propaganda.

In fact, if only one source is used it is propaganda. However, a class that includes both a traditional textbook and something like 1619 will encourage critical thinking and thoughtful discussions.

What those screaming about critical race theory or 1619 fail to recognize, that skilled educators are able to use multiple sources (primary and secondary) when teaching history. A skilled teacher isn't afraid to offer ideas to students from a variety of perspectives.

Nothing to be afraid of folks, just allowing kids multiple perspectives and ideas. Just because it isn't exactly what you were told doesn't make it wrong.

Newsflash guno; Leftist troll that could make a motherfucker hate jews if the only experience was guno:

Critical race theory..it's just a theory..

and Critical thinking are 2 different things.

There was no "Critical race theory" for credits when I was in school.

It's Commie bullshit! You Bolshevik Negroid troll!

Your belief that you know the intention of 1000's of educators is a perfect example of ignorance.

its not like its a cross section of all educators.......its just those that have bought into the lie of critical race theory.......uniformly shallow minded and ignorant......

The problem with the 1619 project is it is historical fiction, not even an attempt to make it history. It has been widely panned by academic historians including many that are on the Left. The New York Times had to print a retraction because of the shit storm raised by historians over it. The author had to admit that it was a work of journalist fiction. You might as well teach Harry Turtledove's alternate history of the civil war that is complete fiction...

Or maybe his earlier Southern Victory where the South wins due to a time traveller that gives them the AK 47...

That's where the 1619 project is. Howard Zinn's history book is a bit better but cherry picks minor events in US history to support a Leftist line of reasoning and should be ignored as a mainstream history because covers just niches that are largely irrelevant.
