1) government getting out of the marriage business and leaving it to religious/philosophical institutions - governments would make available civil unions between two or more adult humans (adult defined as age 21 or older)

2) legalization of marijuana for adults (adult defined as age 21 or older)

as long as we have governments we will need pot and liquor...

1) You will have to abandon your support of extremists who don't want to solve the problem, because the issue gains them too much political traction.

2) You will likely never see another legalization of a 'smokeable' product, for health reasons alone. Decriminalizing it is about the best you can hope for.

A good tax base and a more easially managed population. Just keep the food coming and no riots.

If you wanted a good tax base, you would reward capitalism, not punish it. And why the hell you want to "manage" the population in a country established on freedom and liberty, I'll never know... I guess because you are a Fascist Socialist.

Keep us heading down the road we're on, and there will be no more food, which will cause riots. It's ironic, the very thing you don't want, is exactly what you are going to inevitably get.

I disagree. This is one of those issues that will eventually pass, the gays will have their legal right to marry, and people will move on to shit that really matters. And if your marriage explodes in your face because 2 dudes say "I Do"", that's your problem, nobody else's.

This is one of those issues where liberals shot themselves in the foot. Either we have personal freedom or we don't. But not to a leftist. We need some asshole to tell us which plant we can or cannot smoke.

You can think what you want to, but with 80% of the country opposed to "gay marriage" you are going to have a really long wait. You are actually on the verge of pushing America into adopting a Constitutional Amendment to protect traditional marriage.

My solution is a reasonable way to remedy the problems, and put the issue to rest once and for all. I happen to believe it will eventually be the answer accepted. Civil Unions, removing government from the 'marriage' business, and allowing any two adults to enter into a contractual agreement, without regard for their sexuality or relationship. It also removes the 'sanctity of marriage' issue raised by those of religious faith... I know they aren't important to you, but as a part of our society, they do have a say in the issue. Nope... "Gay Marriage" is never going to fly, but extremists like yourself, will continue to push for it, keeping the issue alive and subsequently, keeping gay people from enjoying the benefits they desire. One day, perhaps people will realize, YOU are the problem.

I have no problem with pot smokers, or even smoking it myself on occasion. But if you think, for one second, that our government is ever going to approve legalization of something you smoke and ingest into your lungs, especially when health issues are so prevalent in our society, you are beyond brain dead. It isn't going to happen. Making simple possession not a crime, stopping the madness of locking people up in prison for possession of a weed, that might actually have promise and hope... but legalizing it? Nope, won't happen!

perhaps, but a significant number of people already use pot, so legalization would enable the government to tax users and give up putting people in prison for using it
