Former US national security adviser H.R. McMaster: 'I believe Ukraine can win the war'

In an interview with FRANCE 24 on Monday, former US national security adviser and retired lieutenant general Herbert Raymond McMaster said that Ukraine can win the war with Russia, remarking that President Vladimir Putin had already lost the conflict in a sense by not winning outright.

McMaster said the Russian military had proven to be a “Potemkin army” and said they would continue to face stiff resistance from Ukrainians backed by a united West.

Don't know if he's right, but it is fortunate we have a president who believes in a united NATO and an active American leadership role within it.

I agree. There is every reason for optimism.

All Ukraine has to do is hold out until the Russian people sour on the sanctions and replace Putin. Then they get their country back, plus Donbas and Crimea too!

Then Biden rides a high for his skilled leadership and diplomacy, gas prices come back down, pandemic goes away, Biden's approval shoots up, January 6th traitors continue to be in the news, Democrats pass unity legislation, new Biden SCOTUS is seated, Trump gets in deeper legal do-do, and Democrats prevail in November!

I am still not sure how this will unfold, but the encouraging thing to me is I have never seen NATO and Europe this united in my lifetime.

I'm not sure either. Every day I wonder if Zelensky is still alive. So far he is, but I don't know if he can make it through. Putin wants him dead so bad.

Wrong move, it will increase his star power! I’m starting to think Putie isn’t as smart as he thinks he is.

I wondered if it was possible Zalensky knows he is on a suicide mission, and that even in death, fighting to the bitter end in the defense of Kiev would be a type of symbolic martyrdom which would inspire Ukranian resistance for years to come, if necessary.

Yes, I think that's possible. I dread it though.

McMaster said that Ukraine can win the war with Russia ...

McMaster said the Russian military had proven to be a “Potemkin army”

I like that - "Potemkin army". :)

It's possible that Ukraine may not lose, but it's likely to be a bloody business.

Putin will have succeeded in making an enemy of the Ukrainian people for a long time to come, as well as uniting free Europe and NATO.

I don't think that was part of his plan.

Ukraine Mounts Counteroffensive to Drive Russians Back From Kyiv, Key Cities

A strike on Moscow’s forces in Kherson destroyed helicopters as the Russian bombing continued and Zelensky asked Congress for more weapons

KYIV, Ukraine—Ukraine said its military had launched a counteroffensive in its capital, Kyiv, and other key cities, as President Volodymyr Zelensky urged the U.S. Congress to provide more weapons and increase economic pressure on Russia

If they can prevent losing, they will win. So far, Putin has not been able to get to Kyiv, less than a 100 miles from the border. It has been three weeks, and Putin still does not have it.

Ah, yes- we'll never forget old what's-his-name.

If Ukraine can get the right weapons and can cut the Russian supply lins they may well force Russia to retreat and force a negotiated end to the war.

I don't see Russia literally retreating from the battlefield. Russian dictators are nothing if not persistent. Stalin's war against Finland started out disastrously, but Stalin just wore the Finn's down.

I suspect Putin will not negotiate from such a weak position -- he hasn't even captured a major Ukranian city yet. He might wait until his tactical position on the battlefield is stronger.

The US never could have been to remain in Iraq forever.

The Kurds were betrayed in Syria. It was not a question of forever, but just keeping the Turks from killing them for a few months. Besides, the US is still in Syria. It was not a pull out, but merely a statement by trump that the Kurds could be killed by the Turks.

trump betrayed the Kurds, and would have betrayed the Ukrainians.

He didnt betrayed anyone, he did the right thing by stopping helping the Marxist Leninist terror organization which is called "Kurds" by the operational Western media and by liar politicians that deliberately aim to misinform the public for their political ends.
