How could they justify not prosecuting Trump at this point?

David Petraeus got two years probation and a $100,000 fine for MUCH less, Petraeus only had one document.

Petraeus fully cooperated once it was identified that he had the document. He did not try to hide it. He did not try to pretend it wasn’t classified, and he did not try to convince the FBI that he had turned over everything when he hadn’t.

If they don’t prosecute Trump, how could they ever prosecute anyone else for these types of crimes?

At this point, the fascist movement of Trump/GOP may be impossible to stop.

There is still no reason for an invasion given. As absolutely everyone predicted the degree of redaction insured that it be impossible to glean a justifiable reason for the actions taken.

see page 34 of the affidavit. Trump's lawyer explains it there.

I read the letter, and it appears trumps lawyer was delusional when he wrote it. Trump is no longer president. Trump no longer has the power to declassified documents. Trump has not claimed he declassified documents. Finally, for the crimes specified in the warrant application classification status is not relevant.

as I pointed out in another thread on this subject, Trump WAS president when these documents were boxed for transport to Florida.

might as well sit back and wait for SCOTUS to settle this for good and all.

for that reason I have to wonder if AG even intended to ever prosecute.

They may not prosecute, but Trump not being president when the items were stolen has nothing to do with the criminality.

For what? Being in possession of declassified docs?

They just recently opened the investigation. Those usually take some time before they result in prosecution. They are probably still combing through the documents.

The only thing that can stop the prosecution is fear of retaliation from white supremacist terrorists. I don't think that's going to stop the DOJ, tho.

The reasons are spelled out very clearly in the warrant.
