Listen idiot, Trump has given you a wrong impression. NATO is not a box of money- it is not a fund at all. When NATO was set up, NATO members agreed to burden share the overall defense of Europe and Asia by spending 2% of their GDP on their own military spending.
But, a lot of these countries still under re-construction from the World War were not capable of doing this, but the goal remained the same. Most countries were increasing spending on creating their own military defense systems, as some never had their own military before, and had to be started ground up. It took a while before some countries could do this.
There have been some that took decades to reach this goal, and yet, some still have not quite reached this goal.
BUT LET ME TELL YOU, THIS HAS BEEN AN EFFORT FOR EVERY US PRESIDENT SINCE WORLD WAR II, to continue to push nations to spend their money on their own military to meet the goal.
TRUMP WAS JUST ANOTHER PRESIDENT THAT DID THE SAME THING. AND HE DID NOT GET ANY OF THE COUNTRIES TO INCREASE THEIR SPENDING, ANYMORE THAN ANY OTHER PRESIDENT THAT CAME BEFORE HIM.
EVERY PRESIDENT BEFORE DONALD TRUMP HAS HAD TO REMIND OUR EURO/ASIAN allies by urging them to meet their goals by continuing to invest in their military spending.
TRUMP DID NOT DO ANYTHING MORE AND WAS NO MORE SUCCESSFUL IN GETTING ANY COUNTRY TO SPEND MORE ON THEIR MILITARY- THAT WASN'T ALREADY DOING THIS IN THE FIRST PLACE.
ALL TRUMP DID WAS MAKE AN IDIOT OUT OF HIMSELF FOR NOT UNDERSTANDING HOW NATO WORKS, AND THREATENED THE OTHER ALLIED NATIONS THAT THE US WAS GOING TO VIOLATE THE NATO AGREEMENT BY PULLING OUT!
