Guns make for a more civilized society

Most gun owners *are* law-abiding ppl. The problem is most of them do not use trigger guards, nor keep their guns in a gun safe, or otherwise secured.

If you want everyone to have a gun, then why not some sensible requirements, like we do with cars?
1. All guns must be purchased from a licensed dealer.
2. Background checks, no exceptions, no excuses.
3. Mandatory trigger guards.
4. Mandatory gun safe.
5. Liability insurance in case one of your guys is lost, stolen, or used in a suicide or a crime or an accident resulting in injury/death.
6. Mandatory gun handling and safety training at owner's expense, renewable every other year.
7. Database with all guns and owners that only law enforcement can access.

I'm sure you can think of others.

I've got to head off to class in a few minutes; looking forward to continuing this civil discussion. Hopefully the crazies won't show up and ruin it.

Don't private citizens sell cars, planes, boats all of which have killed people.

2. Background checks, no exceptions, no excuses.

No argument

3. Mandatory trigger guards.
4. Mandatory gun safe.

4th Amendment violation.

5. Liability insurance in case one of your guys is lost, stolen, or used in a suicide or a crime or an accident resulting in injury/death.

Are you willing to have the same insurance on your vehicles?

6. Mandatory gun handling and safety training at owner's
expense, renewable every other year.

One time requirement is reasonable the rest is BS.

7. Database with all guns and owners that only law enforcement can access.

4th Amendment violation.

if you don't know the laws, then don't try to tell others what they are. thanks.

Well, there goes the hope that the gunhumpers wouldn't show up and spoil this formerly-civil discussion with their bullshit.

I *do* know the law, where I used to live, as it pertains to concealed carry. Well, as it *used* to pertain to concealed carry. You used to have to take a mandatory 8 hour training class, pass a background check, and show that you could hit a target 7 yards away. My late husband was the second person in our county to get the permit.

Now in Missouri to openly or concealed carry, you just show up at the licensed gun dealer, pick out your weapon, pay your money, give them the required data for the background check, and once that goes through... you too can strut around Target or Denny's with your wonderful shiny new dick substitute. Because you never know when you'll be called upon to shoot a shoplifter running off with a pair of jeans or a bag of chips.

Covfefe wanted to know if you have to pass some sort of proficiency test to buy a firearm. No, you do not... not in any state that I know of anyways. She did not ask about concealed or open carry permits.

I actually agree with all of that, except what I wrote in red. I do believe in common-sense gun regulation...I guess I should have prefaced my OP with that. I just don't support ridiculous regulations, outright gun bans/confiscation, and such.

So would domestic abuse be a "non-violent offense" automatically, or would you predicate it on whether the victim had injuries?
Are there jurisdictions where having a medical MJ card disqualify you from a gun permit?

'dick substitute'........is your husband that deficient endowed???

I’ve never applied for a gun permit, what are the criteria to obtain one? Do you have to demonstrate you can hit a target?

Thanks

Depends on your state, though you need no permit to purchase anything in the majority of them. You just fill out a 4473 Form, wait 5-30 minutes for a phone call to finish (your NICS check) and pay whatever the price is.

Thanks, you can tell I don’t buy many guns, that my hubby’s thing, and his are rifles to shoot at a range. I don’t know anything about guns. My dad had a shot gun for hunting.

I imagine you knew very little about our civic process the first time you voted as well, but you still did so without any sort of impediment. That's how rights are supposed to be, easily exercised.

Yeah, if only ppl would keep their guns safely locked up inside their house where thieves and small children couldn't get them. But they don't.
If only ppl didn't feel a need to buy an arsenal capable of wiping out a herd of elephants, then using it to wipe out a church full of ppl. But they do.
If only ppl didn't feel a need to allow their mentally ill son learn to shoot for his self-esteem, only to die at his hands before he wiped out 26 lives in an elementary school. But she did.

If only....

If only liberals would begin to believe and understand the concept of "free will" and "personal responsibility, among other things.
If only.........

No, you don't have to even be sighted.

I own several guns, including two shotguns, a .22 rifle, a .357 revolver, and 4 non-revolver handguns which I've never fired. I used to have a .308 as well but gave it away because I don't hunt. These guns all belonged to my late husband. He had a concealed carry permit. At that time you actually had to take a class and be able to hit a target 7 yards away. I inherited them all. I'd sell them today if I knew someone sane would buy them.

Non-revolver handguns are called semi-auto handguns, unless it's a single shot, and I'll give you $10.00 for the entire lot. :D

Been hearing that "free will" and "personal responsibility" crap for decades now and we still got 30,000+ people a year dying from gun violence, all abstractions used to justify inanity

What good is a gun for self defense if it has a trigger guard on it?

What good does it do, when it's in a gun safe; unless liberals believe that a home invader will wait, when you ask and say please, for you to open the gun safe.

All of Owl's desire's seem to be nothing more then a method of keeping firearms out of the hands of the poor, who can't afford all the "safe guards", she wants and yet, liberals will say that it's to much of an inconvenience to expect voter IDs.

still refuse to finish my sentence, we see.........very telling of your cowardice at being wrong and me being right. ROFL what a fuckstick retard you turned out to be, pussy.

Domer wants everyone to be unable to own a firearm; because his felony conviction for sexual assault precludes him from owning one.

And what about deaths by motor vehicles??

Really? Your comparing it to motor vehicles?

Motor vehicles are a necessity in America, guns are not. Motor vehicles are made for transportation, guns are made to kill. Motor vehicles are owned and operated by nearly everyone in America, guns are owned by a percentage of the population and their usage on a daily basis is no where near the use of motor vehicles. Etc., etc., etc

Been there, done that, and it still has the same results

But why does everyone need to own and use one?
Aren't there buses and cabs?

And why does anyone need to own more then one?

You can point out that truth a million times to these barrel-strokers and it will still not sink in. Smarterthanyou still comes back with:

“vehicles cannot be necessary”

How better to increase the likelihood of being injured by your own weapon than to have one handy 24/7?

Been around them 24/7/365, 366 in leap years, for more years than you can count. Nothing yet. So much for your claims. In fact, far more people are in my situation than the few, rare examples you consider in making your foolish claim.
