The Constitution is cool, but it's not perfect. The Founders recognized and invented the amendments.
What made sense in the past does not now. Today we don't need a militia to defend the country. The Second Amendment has been twisted by gun nuts and their well-financed lobbyists who just don't care about people.

Polls show the people want more gun control, it shouldn't be that difficult to persuade them that the first step is to get rid of the amendment.

To give you an idea of what you are working against, in the US there are 38 states that have "shall issue" laws concerning concealed weapons permits.
This means that the laws have been changed to make it so a person who qualifies to have a ccw gets one. This is a big step in making gun laws more loose.
And 2 states have no permits required laws, which mean they can carry concealed weapons without a permit at all.

The 2nd amendment was never intended to be misinterpreted as a free for all used by renegade mob mentality bigots calling themselves "unofficial militias" and other mentally demented people.
The reason we have laws and law enforcement (gun control), is because we have human predators running amok, with easily available guns to misuse against society, while screaming, "My guns are protected by the 2nd Amendment." While they may think their guns are protected by the 2nd Amendment, which they aren't, they also aren;t when they pose a serious threat to society.

wow..
we are talking about our rights under our Constitution to keep and bear arms..the reason it was put there, is to be able to fight against tyranny from our Government..
and the big majority of gun owner are responsible, respectful of guns, (not looking to go and just KILL someone).. and believe in that thing called our Constitution that we seem to have to continue fight against all the chickenshit people in this country who are afraid of guns and wish to trample on our rights..

A man opened fire on officers during a domestic disturbance call Saturday morning, killing three of them, a police official said. Friends said he recently had been upset about losing his job and that he feared the Obama administration was poised to ban guns. [...]
Friends identified the suspect as Richard Poplawski, 23, but police would not immediately confirm his name. The gunman was arrested after a four-hour standoff, police said. [...]
Edward Perkovic said Poplawski, his best friend, feared "the Obama gun ban that's on the way" and "didn't like our rights being infringed upon."

Holder said reinstating the ban would decrease the flow of guns from the U.S. into Mexico.
