Firearms ownership (legal anyways) is still lowest per capita in urban areas, which by some profound mysticism apparently, have the highest crime rates. And I'll be willing to bet that those same statistics would pop up in Britain, France, and other nations.

So better than 1 in 5 murders were accomplished with sharp objects and blunt instruments.

The gun is still an inanimate object. It requires a person to kill anyone. And the number of times guns are used to protect lives is many times the number of times they are used to murder.

In Britan the cops are unarmed. Do you think that would work here? Even without guns, the USA is a more violent culture.

A large part of that could probably be laid at the feet of people who go off on those who disagree and insult them using comparisons that have no bearing on the argument. Like say......claiming a college education makes a difference in a debate about whether a single gun crime proves anything??

Top, was it in college that you learned to ignore the facts that don't support your argument and rant on about only the cherry-picked facts that support your argument?

In the USA (which is the culture we are discussing), the states with more open gun laws have lower crime rates.

Now, before you start with the "people buy them in Florida and murder people in New York" nonsense, please explain how we would prevent guns from coming into the US for use by criminals? We cannot stop the drug smugglers, so there wouldn't be a snowball's chance in hell that we would stop the gun smugglers.

The difference is that the innocent, law-abiding population is left with no means of defense.

You also refuse to acknowledge a multitude of other things, including the fact that the Swiss have one of the lowest crime rates, let alone GUN crime rates, and the highest firearms ownership per capita in the entire world. You refuse to acknowledge that places with the highest crime almost universally have the lowest private firearms ownership. And you refuse to acknowledge that our crime rate is decreasing even though gun ownership is on the rise.

The total number of firearms in private homes is estimated minimally at 1.2 million to 3 million, including an estimated 320,000 assault rifles, in Switzerland compared to their population of 7,581,520. I highly doubt that Rhode Island has more guns per capita than that.

I'm telling you white trash NRA member NASCAR watching boobs that thier murder rate today is exponentially lower than ours. Guns may not be the only reason, but the dramatically lower ownership rate is without a doubt a large factor.:pke:
