gun scum get banned for life

I want to clarify I'm not anti hunting nor am I an idiot like desh that eats dead animals but wags their finger at others for killing them. My argument is purely that hunters enjoy killing and to stop spinning it as some higher noble purpose. Some in this thread were honest... They enjoy the thrill of killing. That's fine.

killing is NOT intertainment

You don't have to just accpet everything that you were taught as a child

At some point It becomes YOUR LIFE

I accept it because I agree with it. I hunt for the food. My dad took me when I was young and taught me how to do it safely. Why do you believe I simply accept it and don't agree with hunting because I prefer to provide my own food instead of paying twice as much for it at a store?

If that were true you could also walk around the woods quietly with a bunch of friends and simply return home at the end, but that doesn't sound as fun anymore does it? Even if the actual killing is 5 minutes long.... It's about the hunt and stalking the prey. It's about the killing.

I said that there is an element of fun to hunting and I wouldn't do it if I didnt enjoy it, but the killing aspect of it is not the part I look forward to. There is a rush while you are aiming, there is relief if you see it's a good shot, and then there is some sadness and gratefulness when you walk up to the dead animal. Experiencing all of that with my dad or brother and being out there and just the whole experience is what I enjoy and find to be fun. Then eating it for months afterwards is awesome too.

We are from two different worlds cowgirl. Lol. I love how you talk about barrel racing as if it is the most obvious thing in the world. I was picturing people running around with barrels on them or rolling down a hill in barrels.

Sorry, I think it would be harder for me to find someone around here that doesn't know what it is, probably actually nearly impossible.

My son killed this young buck with a well placed shot. The opportunity for that shot came from a couple months of scouting leading up to a three (two for us since we won't hunt on Sunday) day youth season and the skill to make that shot came about as the result of a lifetime of practicing marksmanship. There was joy on both our parts at the kill. Joy for success that comes from hard work. Joy (on his part) for finally being the one to provide such a quantity of protein rich, lean meat for our household. Joy on my part for the comradery that he and I experienced those days and from seeing my son learn a valuable skill...more than just the hunt and the kill.

Deer don't go to a butcher from our house. That deer was carried to our house and I taught my son how to clean the animal, butcher it and care for the meat. I taught him how to cook it various ways. I taught him how to make salami (one of our favorites) and Slim Jim type of meat sticks from it. He now has a valuable skill that will serve him and his future family well. I take it that if it were up to you, you would deny him this privilege.

Another thing he has learned (and I have taught him this since birth) is that guns are tools used for killing. While we target shoot and skeet shoot for fun, he knows exactly what guns are used for and has a healthy respect for them and knows how to handle them safely. I am a pretty strict father. I took him out and spanked him with a belt when he was 4 for misbehaving in church services. But he knows that I'll punish him worse if I witness him mishandling his weapon than I would for other things. To me it is very important that he learn safe handling of his firearms.

I would be lying if I didn't admit that there was a certain amount of thrill and satisfaction at the point of taking "the shot," but when you would have folks believe that is the only reason people hunt it just shows your ignorance about what we do. It shows that you are willing to deprive a future generation of a wholesome, healthy connection to this nation's past.

Props to you and your son. :good4u:

I wouldn't necessarily refer to it as a thrill; but the satisfaction of being successful, after spending the time and effort.

I also participate in goat tying events like in this video below as well which i'm sure the animal rights activists out there arent big fans of but it's fun and it's a challenge.

So using the meat from what was killed during a hunt isn't a noble purpose?
