So how did they clean up the streets in New York then? In the 1970s, '80s and early '90s, New York was viewed as one of the most dangerous cities in the world, now it is one is the safest. Yet you tell me there is nothing you can do to change things, so I am calling bullshit on that.

salon is a biased site, but to actually answer your question, all they did was drive crime underground and smarten them up. the number of unregistered guns in the hands of non violent citizens is still exceptionally high.
