Greek Health System Opts for Amputation as Money-Saver

1) Put it this way people in France, Germany, the US, and even the UK, actually pay taxes, albeit grudgingly in some cases. The same cannot be said of the good citizens of Greece.

2) Suck my balls.

:D

1) Um... there ARE NO 'good citizens' in Greece.

2) Um... HELL NO...

Had you been playing the French, you would have received my two cheers and a vigorous fist pump.... otherwise I have to go with the underdog.

0-0 at half time - pretty dull stuff.

The French are currently 1-0 up over the mighty Luxembourg.

Not what Brits think of government health care. What one guy thinks about government health care. In any case if it's true the Brits don't like their health care where are the politicians running on changing it? Surely they would be prominent, wouldn't they? And all this talk about neglecting the elderly, considering the boomers are aging, a politician like him should have no problem becoming a leader.

Where are the politicians campaigning on dismantling government health care? There should be lots of them. Where are they? All we have is ONE dude from the European Parliament. ONE! And the European Parliament is composed of 736 members.

(Excerpt) The Members of the European Parliament sit in political groups – they are not organised by nationality, but by political affiliation. There are currently 7 political groups in the European Parliament.

Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats)
Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament
Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe
Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance
European Conservatives and Reformists Group
Confederal Group of the European United Left - Nordic Green Left
Europe of Freedom and Democracy Group (End)

When you have nothing to do why don't you check out those political groups and see how many have dismantling universal medical care as an agenda. I highly doubt you'll find one but, like I said, when you're bored and have nothing else to do.

Let us know. :)

Got an experiment for your incompetent ass, to hopefully demonstrate a point.... Go get a sledgehammer, and beat the living dog shit out of your computer, destroy it completely, just like a country adopting nationalized health care would destroy the privatized system. Then come back and tell me how you reverted it back to its present state! I am truly interested to know how you went about doing that, after completely destroying what you had, because you seem to think it wouldn't be a problem to do, if you wanted to.

What your stupid ass continues to NOT GET, is that once the privatized system is destroyed and dismantled, there is nothing to return to... it's gone forever! There is no other choice, but to remain dependent on the system you've established for yourself, unless of course, you can tell us what your secret is... now go grab that sledge hammer, please!!

It's not being used as an example of what to follow here. It's being used as an example of what happens under a nationalized health care system, when the nation's economy tanks. People get their feet chopped off instead of new shoes, because amputation is cheaper. Of course, the Greeks, according to Apple, can always go back to the system that no longer exists, if they aren't happy with this... so they must not mind losing their feet... Greece is a small country, not many places to go, so having feet is probably not a big priority for them.

It appears you have a definite comprehension problem. The government is not going to pay for shoes. That's it. That's all.

Check out the prices here. $80.00 for a pair of shoes.
http://www.healthcareapparel.com/shop/mens-diabetic-shoes.html?gclid=CIvM8O3jzqQCFUNM5Qod1Wf8iw

Then check Sears. Around $50.00 for regular dress shoes.
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/s_10153_12605_Shoes_Mens_Dress

So, what this all boils down to is Greece's health care plan is going to end up costing a diabetic individual $30.00 considering they would need a pair of shoes anyway costing $50.00 and they'll have to spend $80.00.

OMG!!:eek3: Scrap the health care plan! They've implemented "foot panels"! The next thing will be Palin's "death panels"! RUN....while you still have feet!

I think it's safe to say, the Greeks are having a little worse time than most. The point of this story is to illustrate what happens when your health care is nationalized, and your nation is in financial distress.

The point is what would happen to someone who lived in a country without a universal plan and didn't have medical insurance like the 43 million here?

You said "one". Did you lie before?

Well, if they lived here, one or more, of the 1.5 million non-profit organizations would assist them in getting what they needed. If it was an emergency, the assistance would be available at any hospital or medical center in the country. We certainly wouldn't chop off their feet because it was too expensive to buy them shoes.... but that's what they are doing in Greece, because of the nationalized health care they love so much and wouldn't dream of departing with!

I really think it's because Greeks don't care that much about their feet, they don't have anywhere to go... no money to spend... so what good are feet anyway? Just save the money and chop them off! Isn't that how you see it, Apple?

I think that might be the ancient Greek state rather than modern era Greece, Damo. :)
That really depends on how you measure things. In the Billions of years since there's been a universe a couple thousand really don't make much difference.

Noting how far it can go with socialized medicine, when to save money on special shoes they start cutting off feet, it is wise to give direct examples. Things like this are likely the reason many don't want to head in that direction.

It is interesting to note that "somebody" big in politics in the US thought to say the doctors were doing this to "make money" on the amputations, rather than clearly noting that it became policy to save money on shoes....

Yes, Damo but the Greek state hasn't been in existence for billions of years.

You can also cite plenty of scare stories from all manner of places regarding some form of socialised medicine if you disregard the actual relevance to anything being considered in the US. You can also post scare stories from the US system as an example of how bad a lack of "socialised medicine" is but i'm not really interested in doing that.

I was going to respond to your post last night but I fell asleep while reading it.

We have been over this before, Dixie. The system is not gone forever and if you did the most basic of research you'd see there are financial interests in Canada trying to open medical centers. They are even suing the government for the right to do so.

Sooo, don't say if universal medical is instituted the private system would be destroyed and there wouldn't be anything to return to. That is simply not true. There will always be people waiting to make a buck off the ill.

The vast majority of Canadians do not want private medical businesses opening because the doctors who will work there will also want to work for the government plan. What will happen is a patient will go to a government hospital to see a doctor. The doctor will tell the patient if they go to his medical establishment he will perform the operation next week. If they go through the government plan they will have to wait for a period of time.

Considering the same doctor will be performing the operation it will become nothing more than coercion. The doctor will first operate on the people who pay him at his establishment and make the others wait. When times get slow then he will operate on the other people.

Think about it for a moment. The doctor would decide when he would work at his establishment and when things slowed down he'll insist on getting on the government payroll. When demand increased he'd stop or slow down operating on patients coming through the government plan making them wait longer while he operated on people at his establishment.

Nothing is destroyed or dismantled. There will always be doctors and nurses doing their best to take a dying person's last dollar. They're trying to do that in Canada and you can bet they'd do the same thing in the US.

Do us both a favor and paste this reply in a file so you can refer to it the next time you bring up that old, tired, worn out argument. :)

Do you have a learning disability?

The government will stop paying for shoes but will still cover amputations. That is what it means, Dix. It's unfortunate you have such difficulty with comprehension.

Remember the chart I posted? The average life span in Greece is lengthier than in the US. That means people live longer in Greece and in the words of the Bee Gees it's all about [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_izvAbhExY&ob=av2n"]YouTube - Bee Gees - Stayin' Alive [Version 1] (Video)[/ame]

Good God, man. They are not cutting off feet to save money. They are simply not going to pay for shoes but still cover amputations. If a person requires special shoes the doctors are not going to cut off his feet while he's asleep.

Talk about spin.
