HE could not have prevented the pandemic, he could have done a lot for the suffers of the disease by embracing the cause and illistrating to the ignorant that it was not something that should be kept under the rug or that people can transmit via casual contact.

I graduated HS in 1989 with a kid who suffered from AIDS, he died in 1994. In HS he lived with the terrable secret that he could not confide in anyone. He was a great kid, I knew something was up... but... he did not tell me until sometime after graduation. It must have been terrable to live with such a secret.

They had an infectus disease expert come to the school every year to lecture to the students about how it was nothing to b e afraid of unless you put yourself into one of the risk catagories. Now I know why my school was ahead of the curb on the issue.

Yep. Remember Ryan White getting expelled from school, yet his infection was tied to hemophilia. Remember the health care providers that refused to treat AIDS patients? Ignorance abounded, and reagan could have taken a position but he didn't.

Again, it was the responsibility of the CDC in Atlanta, not the President. With ANY other viral epidemic, the public was warned immediately, and people with the virus were quarantined in some cases, especially if the virus was deadly. This did not happen with AIDS because LIBERALS wouldn't allow it! It was too "insensitive" to the homosexual community to tell them their behavior was causing the spread of this disease. It was too much of a violation of their right to be perverts, for us to shut down the gay bathhouses where the disease was running rampant. Reagan could do very little about this "politically correct" public sentiment, and he had absolutely NO help from the Democrat Congress.

From the very start, there was NO effort made to contain or quarantine the disease. It took literally years to be able to adequately inform the public of the truth regarding AIDS, and even then, it was met with criticisms from the left, who feared there would be some mass ostracizing of homosexuals if it was taught that AIDS was mostly caused by homosexual activities. After dragging the left, kicking and screaming, to the realization that we had to warn people of the REAL dangers, they STILL insisted on this stupidity of condoms to prevent the spread, even though we knew and understood, the HIV virus could easily be passed, even with a condom. Abstinence was (and still is) the only way to be 99.9% reasonably certain of not contracting AIDS. To this day, people will still argue that people can get AIDS from a variety of activities, and while it is true that some got it through blood transfusions or sharing needles, the primary way it was spread to the epidemic proportions we saw, was through homosexual activities.

Jesus fucking christ Dixie you staggering hipocrite. Who the fuck do you think CDC is answerable to? Which branch of Government do they belong to? I can just imagine how if there was an outbreak of disease and President Obama said something as completely stupid as "This aint my job it's CDC's" how you would excoriate him and rightfully so. How can you cherry pick such an abdication of moral authority with such an outrageous lie as "Well we wanted to do something about AIDS but liberals wouldn't let us cause it wasn't politically correct.

That's just an out right lie Dixie and I defy you to site one, just one public instance where were ANYONE, not just liberals, opposed AIDS prevention and Awareness initiatives because it wasn't politically correct.

I can tell you I aint going to hold my breath on that challenge cause your lie is about the bat shit craziest thing you have ever said.

Care to demonstrate?

Just to establish context, his "Care to demonstrate?" challenge was to this statement of mine: "Sorry, not an appeal to ridicule. That applies only to logical arguments, something Reagan never mastered. His speeches were mostly straw man arguments, non sequiturs, post hoc ergo propter hoc arguments, appeals to personal incredulity, and ad hominem attacks, not to mention bald-faced lies." Here goes.

"Government is not the solution to the problem, it is the problem." non sequitur

Supply-side economicsstockman has admitted as much and the trickle-down theory were bald-faced lies. David Stockman admitted as much not too long ago

Reagan was the man who started demonizing liberals, who with his surrogates started the barrage of ad hominem and straw man arguments that falsely conflated liberalism with Marxism and "big government" totalitarianism

His claim during the debates that government regulation added billions in costs to American businesses was a post hoc ergo propter hoc (coming after, therefore caused by) argument. The added costs followed the regulations, but were caused by other factors, like out of control health insurance and pharmaceutical industries, which have increased medical expenses well above the rate of inflation since before 1970. Accepting credit for the fall of the USSR is another. It fell after Reagan was elected, but it was due to factors in place since Truman. In fact, both George Will and Charles Krauthammer gave most of the credit to Harry Truman for implementing the Marshall Plan and starting NATO, unquestionably two of the biggest factors in the collapse. His defense spending was not one of them. That just broke us. Soviet archives showed the USSR didn't even try to keep pace with Ray Gun's military expenditures, because they had started their inexorable decline in 1975, and by the time they invaded Afghanistan, they were already running on empty. Reagan didn't do squat to bring the Soviet Union down.

I have to admit I've forgotten what my reason for including the appeal to personal incredulity in my list. It sucks getting old and forgetful. It sucks getting old and forgetful. It sucks getting...fuck! It will come to me eventually, and i'll post it

These are merely your opinions, not facts. For example, how is: "Government is not the solution to the problem, it is the problem." a non sequitur?
