California has the largest population and 3rd highest per capita income in the country....so their residents obviously send more fed. income taxes to Washington...

All we have to do is reform the tax laws so the rich and corporations pay taxes, and make it retroactive.

That will give us the revenue they stole from the middle class with their tax breaks/cuts, and bring them current on what they owe.

Instead of trying to find ways to take money from people, why don't you think if ways to generate revenue?

If California secedes from the Union do you think the federal gov't is going to go "here you go California, here's all the billions you've paid into S.S. and Medicare, just take it"?

CA is not seceding.

But, I'll play the game. YES, I do think the Feds will hand over what is rightfully ours.

I was talking about secession. If we secede the Feds aren't paying for all the expenses they do now. We cannot cover them on our own.

Besides, when the federal government revises it's taxes so the rich and corporation pay retroactively, it too can collect the revenue needed that was stolen from SS and the working middle class.

In this fairy land of seceding ........CA would be fine. We are the eight largest economy in the world. In the real world, outside of the rights obsession with CA seceding and unfunded pensions, we are economically sound.

The federal gov't doesn't pay our state pensions but it pays our S.S. and Medicare (or at least a large portion of Medicare). They're not just going to hand that money over to us if we leave.

We have hundreds of billions in unfunded liabilities. Yes we have a huge state economy but what's relevant is how much do we spend? Eventually these liabilities become due and as we see in places like San Jose and Oakland people pay more in taxes but receive less in services because of the pension payments.
