For producers to work together to control production is called market collusion, and is a crime. There is a need for some coordination, so there is only one institution in the USA allowed to coordinate it, the White House as the representatives of the President. For some reason trump has never explained to anyone, he told all the producers they were OK to sell everything they could to one point in the system, which led to negative prices. My theory is he was trying to drive down prices, without realizing that he could go too far. But it might just be because he likes saying yes to everyone.

Whatever reason, that has meant that no one wants to invest in oil, unless they can get a really good return. Fracking is highly dependent on easy capital, which is lost now. This is a problem that will be with America for generations.

Sure we could. Reopen federal lands for oil leases that Biden closed off, open ANWAR for two examples.

ANWAR in particular needs high prices. Opening ANWAR, and forcing huge amounts of investment there would require a major leap in oil prices. That is the opposite of what you want.

You might argue that once they started producing oil, ten years from now, it might push down prices. I doubt it, but it would definitely push up prices now.

OIL is about gasoline dumbass. Aircraft use kerosene and trucks typically diesel. A byproduct, natural gas, also powers electric power plants. It results in plastics which are in every facet of our lives. It's not just gas dimwit.

It is a tiny percent of electrical production. Even if you are talking about natural gas, not used much in transportation, it is not a majority of electricity production, but merely a third.
