GOP logic on fiscal cliff

It's still sort of fuzzy math to me. At this point, it seems like they're willing to raise taxes on everyone, in a way that is very harmful to the economy & to everyone's well-being, rather than raise taxes on only the top 2%, which won't harm the economy or anyone at all, and who are going to see their taxes go up either way.

Do I have that right? How again do they presume that most Americans won't blame them for not making a deal?

Fine if you aren't the top 2%. I seem to remember when it was only the top 1%. When did it become the top 2%? Soon it will be the top 5% then the top 10%. Maybe eventually they will get to a place that actulaly impacts your wallet and then you will start screaming. But, by then it will probably be too late. You have accepted the premise that what is yours is not really yours and is the gobblements and they just allow you to keep that which they see fit for your to keep.

Sure sounds like freedom to me. How about you?

The Republican House passed 2 or 3 bills that were ignored by the Democratic Senate and the Senate refuses to pass anything of their own...
I think the new logic should be ....we tried and can't do it alone, so fuck it.

Stop making pathetic excused for Boehner & the GOP. Obama is ready to cut spending. The GOP won't budge on revenues.

Period.

AND........

Obamacare contains twenty new or higher taxes. Five of the taxes hit for the first time on January 1. In total, for the years 2013-2022, Americans face a net $1 trillion tax hike for the years 2013-2022, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

That's how negotiations work. What would they possibly draw up when the GOP is still telling them they won't accept taxes on their rich friends?

So the Dims do NOTHING and its the other party's fault ?

The Republicans wrote up 2 pieces of legislation and passed them....what happened to them ? Where did they die ?....Who refused to consider them or negotiate ?

if they do not vote to raise taxes, then the tea idiots can not campaign against them with a new candidate for voting to raise taxes

such is the gop 'logic'

I don't get the logic, how does it "not harm the economy or anyone at all" to raise taxes on the top 2%, but it's economic catastrophe to raise everyone's taxes? The top 2% are the job creators, we know this is a fact. Does raising their taxes not effect job creation? The top 2% are the ones who pay most people's salaries, if they have less money, aren't salaries going to be less likely to be increased?

Not to mention the whole "revenue" argument. We know that increasing the tax rate on top marginal incomes will not produce more revenue, but rather LESS revenue. We also know that increasing the tax rates for middle class, will increase revenue. So it seems increasing everyone's tax will produce more revenue than increasing just the top 2%.

You know, I really don't care about "blame" anymore. I don't think most Americans do either. I understand you are still gung-ho with the "blame game" politics, and think this is something you can use as a weapon to continue in political power, but I really do think you are underestimating the people. Maybe I am wrong, and if so, the current crop of GOP elite will pay the price... hey, I am fine with that too! Go for it, take 'em all out! Hell, let's have ALL of congress totally controlled and dominated by Democrats again! Maybe then, you'll start actually governing and stop trying to blame your failure to lead on Republicans?

The CBO concluded that raising taxes on the top 2% would create 1.6 million jobs.

I care about blame, because it will be the GOP's fault if they don't compromise.

not while the repugs have control of the house and the repugs can filibuster in the senate

But that didn't happen did it.....the Senate won't lay out the legislation to even come to a vote ..... so don't bitch about things that didn't happen.
