God save the Queen

I, for one, am anti-monarchist just as I'm anti-racist...and for exactly the same reasons: no human being should have a birthright to be better than another.

That said, even though her passing is being overblown in the US, IMO, a little respect for the dead is more polite.

I don't agree.

(not saying these apply to you)

1) the dead have no idea what you are saying.
So 'showing respect' means nothing as they cannot even hear it.

2) when I die - I don't want anyone talking ANY different about me when I am gone than when I was alive.
Slag me now AND slag me then.
So I am cool with the Golden Rule on this.

3) anyone who is against cancel culture and excessive PC these days.
Yet turns around and demands/knocks others for saying what they think about someone who has died are HYPOCRITES.
Period.

And if I can piss off hypocrites?
FINE with me.

Obviously the dead can't hear, see or feel anything. They're fucking dead. Funerals are for the living. It's a matter of civility and mutual respect. The Golden Rule as you stated in #2.

The Golden Rule is not PC and I never suggested it be made a fucking rule. When the majority of our society has the disrespect and unruliness of 6-year-olds, then our society is failing. When people suggest that every little thing be made a fucking rule, they are missing the point of freedom and personal accountability.

John Lydon has claimed that his former band Sex Pistols are 'tastelessly' trying to 'cash in' on the Queen's death with their punk single God Save The Queen.

The singer, 66, said he is 'distancing' himself from any activity from the band which aims to promote their 1977 track, claiming it is 'disrespectful' to the Royal Family.

John, better known by his stage name Johnny Rotten, penned the lyrics to God Save the Queen and the anti-royalist song was famously released just before the Queen's Silver Jubilee
