Georgia County Orders Elderly Black Voters Off Bus Taking Them To The Polls

:palm: The county (they operate the center) would be legally liable for anything that happened on an organized "field trip" originating from the premises. Therefore they have a procedure in place to protect the seniors and mitigate the risk. "Black Votes Matter" did not follow the procedure.

Tell you what: Tool up to any senior center near your location. Strut through the door and announce that everyone can get in your car for a free ride.

Let the forum know what happens.

Republicans don't want black people voting, and want to make it as much of a hassle for them to vote as possible.

The evidence doesn't seem to bear out that conclusion, does it? Did you entice the women you stalked into a vehicle?

THEY WERENT IN THE CENTER

they were on a bus asshole

Yes I read the thread and my problem is with the "authorized" part. They're adults, they can do whatever they want. It's not up to anyone to stop them because they don't like the bus they're on.
"Jefferson County Administrator Adam Brett said the trip, set to depart from a county-run senior center, was political and therefore violated guidelines imposed on county-sponsored events, the AJC reported. Although Black Voters Matter is a nonpartisan organization, Jefferson County Democratic Party Chairwoman Diane Evans helped organize the event.

Officials “felt uncomfortable with allowing senior center patrons to leave the facility in a bus with an unknown third party,” Brett told the AJC. “No seniors at the Jefferson County senior center were denied their right to vote.”
Rules....probably rules that could have been bent, but not if it's reported...unfortunate but they'll get to vote....Key word...county vans, not private, politically 'based transportation...Whoever set it up should have known the rules...

:palm:

But you likely would be, if you tooled up to any senior center near your location, strutted through the door and announced that everyone can get in your car for a free ride. At the least, you'd probably have to explain what you were doing to the police.

Nobody said that the seniors in question are "prisoners".

They could accept a ride from anyone without notice IF they were picked up from their own homes. Using the County Center as a pick-up point is the issue. There is a procedure for that, and it was not adhered to.

They justified what they did by claiming it was political... but getting the elderly to the polls is NOT political.. Its a service.

It's only political if they are championing a cause or candidate. Nothing in the story said they were only picking up Democrats on the bus.

Not political.

it was a ride to theb polls

a senior CENTER is not a place to house elderly patients idiot

it is a community center for fully functioning seniors idiot

communities even use them as polling stations all over the nation.

free Americans accepting a ride to their polling station is NOT A CRIME you evil fuck

THEY WERENT IN THE CENTER they were on a bus asshole

Looks like the bus was not allowed to leave the Center with the elderly aboard because of a County rule regarding the use of the Center for political events. Partisan political functions are generally not allowed in violation of guidelines.

The party was not unknown. There is nothing wrong with adults getting political as long as they're not within 100 yards of a polling place (or whatever the distance is, I didn't bother looking it up but you get my point). And once again, they are adults who are obviously not impaired and can vote so what damn difference does it make what bus or van they take to the polls?

They could ride the bus, they just couldn't be collected from a County facility. If the Center was in use as a polling station, there would have been no need for a bus, would there?

Hello Cypress,

The modern Republican Party is an authoritarian, proto-fascist party that has more in common with the Kremlin that it does with traditional American commitment to democracy and values.

No wonder the Republican party is closer to RUSSIANS than Democrat Americans.

Hey, they share the same color..............

They were not in the center idiot

no one was using the center to drive people to the polls

the bus was not parked inside the center

No one was telling them who to vote for

these people saw black people and ASSUMED those black people would all vote Democratic party

that means they did this because they were black people

if they were white or even half white would they have stopped the bus ?

1. The County has guidelines in place prohibiting non-permitted political activity on government premises.
2. You have no way of knowing whether any of the seniors in question is "impaired" or not, do you?
3. The bus or van they take to the polls isn't the issue in this case; the issue is the county guidelines regarding political activity at government owned premises.

1. They left government premises.
2. Barring any evidence I'm going with 'No' they weren't impaired. They are allowed to vote later...remember? In fact some already did. So not impaired.
3. The issue is saying they weren't authorized and sneaked those people away. If that's the case then how did the government get a tip about this in time to stop them from voting that day?

They were not in the center idiot

You don't know where they were, do you? If they were in the parking lot, they were on County senior center premises, I suppose.

no one was using the center to drive people to the polls

They weren't? Who told you that? Wasn't the bus picking people up at the Center?

the bus was not parked inside the center

Your car isn't parked inside a grocery store when you go shopping, but it's still on their premises and they are responsible for it.

No one was telling them who to vote for

Irrelevant. Nobody has claimed that anyone told them who to vote for.

these people saw black people and ASSUMED those black people would all vote Democratic party that means they did this because they were black people if they were white or even half white would they have stopped the bus ?

Says who?

Maybe you don't agree witH the policy but it seems to be what's in place.. I didn't say I agree with this, but it is what it is..

I don't think it is what's in place. If it were there'd be no need for the subterfuge, the response from the county would have been very simple but it wasn't.

Who told you that, faux "Saudi princess?"

Have you ever been to a senior center? They have lectures and classes and libraries and arts and crafts clubs.. Some have a farmer's market once a week.. Typically you can also renew your diriver's license and register to vote..

They are NOT seniors that require round the clock nursing assistance.
