Hey guys Im looking for clarification on being corrected for stating something racist.

Please inform of of what the proper term would be for talking about ones own ethnic group if My people is considered racist.

Is there NO term that is acceptable to use?

It has nothing to do w/ the term. It has to do with the intense focus on color & separation, and how someone might feel more at home with "their people," and about how you can lecture us about the melting pot on one thread, and go off about "our people" and "their people" on another.

what would be the proper term to replace My people or their own people when discussing the ethnicity of a person and their fellow members

I have no idea if he would or wouldn't. I don't feel more or less comfortable with people who happen to share the same ethnic background as me.

But I don't see the same kind of separations that you do.

I don't go out of my way to choose a color for where I hang. I hang at places I like to hang at. I don't focus on it, but I'm in a racially mixed kind of area, so it's all over the board, really.

Do you just hang with whites? Is that when you're most "comfortable"?

What amazes me is a man who supposedly has a very important job and who is in, by his own words, the "top 2% of income earners", has spend literally day after day, hour after hour, minute after minute, on an internet message board beating up on a woman who I believe is quite a bit older than he is.

You're kind of a reverse-sexist, you know. If desh was a man, you wouldn't be saying this.

Because desh has dished out MUCH worse than she's gotten - on every level: insults, namecalling, racebaiting, false accusation. Desh is a classic "bully" profile.

You don't see it, because you're sworn to protect her & all that, but her posts on this board are fairly despicable.

I don't actually like to see anyone ganged up on. However, it is worse to me when it's men ganging up on a woman. It might be unfeminist, I'm not certain. I do know that no matter how long (or short) I live, a group of men beating up on a woman will always be viewed by me as a distasteful spectacle. And one which does not speak well of the men involved.
