This has gotten a bit ridiculous. Somebody asked me to produce examples of more than people here suggesting that the economy in 2006 was "worse than the great depression" when unemployment was at 6% (yeah, in the context of employment). I found several and quoted (accurately mind you) Kerry speaking about it in terms of employment as well. Then also quoted a democratic strategist and other people who flat said "economy"...
Then, even though I accurately quoted Kerry and said he spoke about the jobs (you can go back and check, it really is there both the fact that I said he spoke about jobs and the fact that I had made my original statement within the context of employment) somebody thought they had a "gotcha" moment and tried to distract.
The reality is, Kerry did say that jobs loss (and by extension the economy) was the worst since the Great Depression back when we were at 6% unemployment. And the fact is that many pundits and articles didn't even speak about jobs and actually just said the "economy" itself was the worst since the Great Depression (one of which I linked to).
Now, we can keep going on the tangent, pretend that employment "worst since the great depression" doesn't suggest that the economy is bad, or we can speak to the point that I made long ago. Does anybody remember when the unemployment was at 6% and we were told that was the "worst since the Great Depression" and that reported unemployment is always less than real unemployment?
Does anybody remember when 6% under Bubba was "full employment"? That supposedly then, 6% meant that everybody who wanted a job had one?
Does anybody but me remember these things?
