Gallup Unemployment Reaches 10%

This has gotten a bit ridiculous. Somebody asked me to produce examples of more than people here suggesting that the economy in 2006 was "worse than the great depression" when unemployment was at 6% (yeah, in the context of employment). I found several and quoted (accurately mind you) Kerry speaking about it in terms of employment as well. Then also quoted a democratic strategist and other people who flat said "economy"...

Then, even though I accurately quoted Kerry and said he spoke about the jobs (you can go back and check, it really is there both the fact that I said he spoke about jobs and the fact that I had made my original statement within the context of employment) somebody thought they had a "gotcha" moment and tried to distract.

The reality is, Kerry did say that jobs loss (and by extension the economy) was the worst since the Great Depression back when we were at 6% unemployment. And the fact is that many pundits and articles didn't even speak about jobs and actually just said the "economy" itself was the worst since the Great Depression (one of which I linked to).

Now, we can keep going on the tangent, pretend that employment "worst since the great depression" doesn't suggest that the economy is bad, or we can speak to the point that I made long ago. Does anybody remember when the unemployment was at 6% and we were told that was the "worst since the Great Depression" and that reported unemployment is always less than real unemployment?

Does anybody remember when 6% under Bubba was "full employment"? That supposedly then, 6% meant that everybody who wanted a job had one?

Does anybody but me remember these things?

You're talking about something Kerry said several years ago? Who cares?

Why was Kerry even our candidate in 2004? Where the hell did he come from? He was an extraordinarily mediocre candidate that basically popped out of nowhere, won the nomination, lost, and then fled back to the obscurity from whence he came. First time I ever heard of him was when I read he won the primary.

lol...the same could be said of obama

I really love the democrat excuses. First they claim the stimulus needs more time and then, predictably, they say the stimulus was too small.

So which is it? Failed management or failed planning? You guys have quite the bag of excuses.

LOLZ, I couldn't resist the edit.

unemployment statistics are always low because the government only counts people who are looking for work via unemployment offices

the ones that have given up looking or use non-governmental means are not counted

also, there are the under employed

it is times like these that make me glad that i am retired, although living on social security and investments is not too good either - especially in this economy

Nope. Just like no one remembers "bad Bush" every day during Exxon Valdez.

You tend to be a little biased about the news.
