Gaetz justifies 'no' vote on insulin cap bill by saying diabetics should lose weight

Because many Americans think they have a divine right to be fat cunts without any repercussions.

Do they have the right to make their children fat cunts without any repercussions?

I am a diabetic, and he is right. What we are doing now re diabetes...encouraging obesity and lack of exercise as we spend a ton on drugs, is not sustainable. My drugs are $1400/month....and I am grateful for the them because so long as I am not a complete moron I can spend my life in mostly party mode.

Much harder times are coming. I hope to be dead before the really nasty shit gets here.

there has been no change in the production of insulin for decades, only delivery method (prefilled pens vs syringes). There is no "requisite" rise in cost due to simple volume. This excuse is idiotic.

its made of synthesized bacteria, the cost is quite low. They take advantage as type 1 diabetics like my daughter literally cannot live without it. Type 2 diabetics could theoretically lose weight but in my case my prostatic limits what exercise I can do.

Big Pharma makes a mint on insulin, I get that, but they made a good profit on it when it was cheap(er) too.

That is a problem with the Congress.

and the White House who sold out to Big Pharma in the so-called Affordable Care act and Biden's killing of this specific measure after Congress passed it.

best to say its a problem with politics. you could easily make a case that it was why politics were created in the first place.

[FONT=&]Rep. Matt Gaetz justified his vote against a bill that would cap insulin at $35 a month for most Americans by suggesting people with diabetes should first lose weight before Congress steps in to help.

I bet he's unaware that one of the symptoms of undiagnosed, uncontrolled diabetes is weight loss. But then he apparently didn't realize that fucking underage females is illegal, as well.

Odds are very good for that happening, considering your self-admitted "heavy drinking" and the foods you claim to regularly consume. Hopefully any bill to assist more normal people with the costs of their medication and testing will have exemptions for self-destructive idiots like yourself.

Madwitch bullshitting again!!

Links between obesity and type 2 diabetes
While the exact causes of diabetes are still not fully understood, it is known that factors up the risk of developing different types of diabetes mellitus.

For type 2 diabetes, this includes being overweight or obese (having a body mass index – BMI – of 30 or greater).

In fact, obesity is believed to account for 80-85% of the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, while recent research suggests that obese people are up to 80 times more likely to develop type 2 diabetes than those with a BMI of less than 22.

How does obesity cause type 2 diabetes?
It is a well-known fact that if you are overweight or obese, you are at greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes, particularly if you have excess weight around your tummy (abdomen).

Inflammatory response
Studies suggest that abdominal fat causes fat cells to release ‘pro-inflammatory’ chemicals, which can make the body less sensitive to the insulin it produces by disrupting the function of insulin responsive cells and their ability to respond to insulin.

This is known as insulin resistance – the hallmark of type 2 diabetes.

He's got a point. Type 2 diabetes ( the most common type) is caused by being fat.

Wrong. Both my dad and brother developed Type II DM in their elder years. Neither one was/is ever overweight. Same with my only male cousin. My son-in-law died in 2020 from uncontrolled DMII. He was six foot tall and weighed 170 at his death at the ripe old age of 44. His family has a strong history of diabetes; his mother had lost both of her feet.

You are right though that it can be prevented and/or treated with lifestyle changes, including losing weight if needed, and restricting carbs (modified keto diet).
