Gaetz justifies 'no' vote on insulin cap bill by saying diabetics should lose weight

Rep. Matt Gaetz justified his vote against a bill that would cap insulin at $35 a month for most Americans by suggesting people with diabetes should first lose weight before Congress steps in to help.

The Florida Republican claimed on Thursday and in his newsletter a day later that obese people, not pharmaceutical companies, are running up the drug's price, writing that insulin's cost "increases as waistlines increase."

"While Democrat posturing of H.R. 6833 victimizes insulin payees as people with an uncontrollable disease that are being taken advantage of and need Big Brother to throw them a raft, lifestyle changes en masse would expeditiously lower demand and the subsequent prices of insulin,” Gaetz wrote.

Though the bill to limit the cost of insulin was Democrat-sponsored, it passed the House on Thursday with bipartisan support. Twelve Republicans broke party ranks and voted with Democrats. Gaetz was one of 193 House Republicans to vote against the bill.

Gaetz and MTG should be put down like Feral dogs

Type 1 diabetes has nothing to do about weight

So true!

I knew someone would come along and provide some well-needed logic and facts!

Thanks!

Gaetz and MTG should, at least, be muzzled!

I am a diabetic, and he is right. What we are doing now re diabetes...encouraging obesity and lack of exercise as we spend a ton on drugs, is not sustainable. My drugs are $1400/month....and I am grateful for the them because so long as I am not a complete moron I can spend my life in mostly party mode.

Much harder times are coming. I hope to be dead before the really nasty shit gets here.

So let's get this right... Trumpkins complained about the school lunch program then now they are complaining about insulin? :dunno:

Am I going crazy or what?

Read the tweet, fool. How about a levy is imposed on the likes of Mickey D, KFC , Taco Bell et al for causing so much Type 2 diabetes.

It's all about the sugar- NOT ABOUT THE FAT! FOOL!

10 - 15% of people with Diabetes #2 are lean diabetics!

And 10's of millions of fat Americans are no where close to being diabetic.

Matt needs to stop showing his ignorance in the limelight!

Matt's alcoholism is more of a factor leading to Diabetes #2 than his weight!

He is no medical consultant! So he should leave his medical comments to the pro's!

Type 2 diabetes is mostly caused by gluttony, pure and simple, fool.

How high fat foods impact diabetes and metabolic syndrome

As millions of Americans become overweight and obese, type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome are on the rise.

"The study also underscores how very short-term changes in diet such as high-fat eating for only a few days, perhaps even less, can induce a state of insulin resistance," says senior study author Peter C. Lucas, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of pathology at the University of Michigan Medical School.

Researchers began by investigating how free fatty acids induce inflammation and impair insulin action in the liver. It's thought the liver is a major target for the harmful effects of free fatty acids.

In the liver, free fatty acids undergo metabolism to produce diacylglycerols prior to inducing the inflammatory response. Diacylglycerols also activate NF-B signaling which has been linked with cancer, metabolic and vascular diseases.

The team of researchers concluded that Bcl10 is required for fatty acids to induce inflammation and insulin resistance. In the study, Bcl10-deficient mice showed significant improvement in regulation of blood sugar.

"We were surprised to learn that Bcl10, a protein previously known for its critical role in immune cell response to infection, also plays a critical role in the liver's response to fatty acid," says Lucas.. "This is an example of nature co-opting a mechanism fundamental to the immune system and using it in a metabolic organ, in this case, the liver."

"These findings reveal a new and important role for Bcl10 and could lead to novel ideas for treating patients with metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes," says co-senior author Linda M. McAllister-Lucas, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of pediatric hemotology/oncology.

Gaetz with his deranged look and the toxic breath he admits as the treasonous, seditious and pervert who should be expelled and prosecuted for his seditious crimes against Democracy, society and humanity couldn't legitimately justify his way out of a greasy paper bag. This creep Gaetz has that look of someone who was raised by wild animals in the forest.

I don't take Gaetz seriously AT ALL.

I'm sure he's cut to the quick.

Anyone can develop diabetes, but it is more common in Caucasians than other races. Type 1 Diabetes affects both males and females equally, but the number of people affected globally is unknown. It can come along at any age but usually develops in people under the age of 20. It is estimated that about 80,000 children develop diabetes each year.
