There is no bullshit about it. Saying junkies started on 'scripts is like saying alcoholics started on beer. Most probably did but that doesn't mean a large percentage of prescription takers or beer drinkers end up addicted. When taking medication for pain there is no "buzz". If there's no "buzz" then to what does one become addicted?

When I started my pain meds the doctor gave precise instructions. Take a pill and see if the pain subsides. If not, take two pills for the next dose. If that doesn't alleviate the pain, take 3 pills. Keep increasing the dosage until the pain is relieved. If I took more than what was necessary to eliminate the pain the "buzz" effect would start.

It's no different than a person having a beer. Are they enjoying the beer or drinking it as fast as they can in order to get a buzz?

Umm. Kinna, the buzz is still there, but it probably not felt as the pain thru the nerves to the brain over-rides the narcotic buzz.
But you are correct, take them as needed, the greater the pain, the more the need.

It does lead to addiction if you continue to take them, over a period of time, even if you have severe pain, if you stop you will go thru withdrawl.

If one is not euphoic while under the influnce, it's probable they wont miss the drug, Might be a day or 2 of feeling like a cold -but that's simply to akkow endomorphins, and dopamone levels return.

Even true highly addicted ppl can with draw in about 72 or so hours. They use it to get high, so withdrawl is hell. And the craving continues beyond the withdrawl.

To my original point aimed at ILA...who seems to think that the Tylenol in the meds is worse than the opioids....you will most definitely suffer side effects once you stop long term opioid use.

Acetaminophen is a very toxic drug (as is all drugs) if not taken appropriately. Bear in mind that more than 4 grams a day is enough to do significant hepatic damage necessitating the need for admission and the administration of large doses of acetylcysteine. Not a fun endeavor.

As I stated, accurately I might add. If used to treat pain, the risk of addiction to opioids is quite low. I didn't say impossible, just quite low. If they are used to get stoned, then they are quite addictive. There is no maximum dose of opioids. That doesn't mean that you can't take enough to kill you, it just means that for some folks very large doses can be required to alleviate their pain such as oncology patients. If you take a dose given to an end stage oncology patient and give it to an opioid naive patient, it would most likely cause respiratory depression and kill them.

My point stands, IF used for pain, patients have much higher risk from the acetaminophen than the opioids. That is a pharmacological fact.
