FOX BUSINESS SUDDENLY CANCELS LOU DOBBS TONIGHT, ITS HIGHEST RATED SHOW

I think their problem in this case, is how specific their falsehoods were with respect to Dominion and Smartmatic. The fabrications were so off base, I can't see a countersuit? We already know that Fox accepted the fact that they were wrong. They had forced pretend redactions before Dobbs' show, and (I believe) Hannity.

Like I said Althea, times are different. What one would expect becomes completely the opposite. They will find a way to counter sue. Off topic I hope you did not get to much snow in that last Noreaster.

According to the lawyers I've seen interviewed, Smartmatic has all the elements of a solid defamation lawsuit: https://www.politifact.com/article/2020/dec/23/how-fox-news-newsmax-vote-rigging-coverage-squares/

Perhaps the strongest evidence that Fox News and Newsmax considered themselves vulnerable is that they responded to the Smartmatic letter. It’s a form of damage control.

"What we are seeing with the retractions or corrections by Fox News and Newsmax is an attempt to either stave off liability or at least minimize the damages they might be subject to from a defamation lawsuit," said University of Denver law professor Alan Chen.

Typically, the most expensive part of losing a defamation suit is the money the court imposes to punish the wayward news organization. That’s generally much larger than the other part, repaying the wounded party for the actual losses they incurred. Running the corrective pieces could insulate Fox News and Newsmax from higher punitive damages.

"The acquiescence of Fox and Newsmax indicates that they recognize they were on thin ice here," said Easton.

Thin ice still does not mean you fell through right? Let see how it plays out.

Not bad...about 2 feet in two days! I moved snow at 3 locations for two days.

Agree. This reminds me of the parade of losers (Romney being the biggest) in and out of trump tower right after the election. He made them all kiss the ring in the hopes of a cabinet position. They all ended up with egg on their collective faces.

Fox/N.Max knew they were screwed, so they offered the flaccid retractions. Dominion allowed them to prostrate themselves, and then sued anyway.

It's all in the hands of the fucking lawyers. Note that there is both the amount of monetary damages being sued for (2.7B) and then the Judge can/will impose a penalty amount which can be small or large depending upon the egregiousness of the defamation. Even if it's 50%, that's still 1.35B.

Who would have though of the day we would have though a billion here or a billion there was a drop in the bucket? It will be interesting to see what happens Dutch.

Considering that the defamation is continuing, Smartmatic was right to sue in order to set the record straight.

It's important to Trump for people to think he had $10B when, in fact, he had less than 4B.

Fox's revenue in 2020 was a $12.3B. Losing 3-5B in a defamation suit is going to leave a mark. Agreed, it's going to be interesting to see what happen.

Before his amazing political career Trump used money to keep score.

It is unclear how much he cares about money now.

I find it interesting that word on the street is that Trump Force One is retired....it has a dead engine....apparently the search is on for a cheapie engine that need only be certified for one flight.....in order to get it to wherever the library will be.

It is currently like 80 miles north of NYC.

He cares. He FUBAR'd/downplayed the COVID response because he was shifting his money from resorts and hotels which were going to be hit hard by a pandemic.
