Are you saying that the elected officials currently in power, and those in 1998 when those safety measures were supposed to be installed, had no urge to police this industry? I'm sorry, it is the Executive who has the power to police... It's unfortunate that your heroes have such obvious feet of clay.

Why do you think Clinton thought that "government is the problem" and therefore didn't have his own administration actually ensure that the laws were followed? I never heard Clinton say that "government is the problem"...

And what I said should be done now... That is also within the power of the executive. Enforcement is their purview. His US Attorneys should be laying out the cases right now...

There is now evidence it may actually drilled beyond its legal drilling rights.

Whoever was inspecting it may have been been paid off or fooled by the company.

the us is among the best at not spilling, the top 40 spills aren't here but we use 25% of the oil. WE need to do much better but we are already good.

So, more than a year after the new guys took office, and their perfection spread throughout everything we have them running around trying to convince people they were "on it from the first day!"

They have no offer of any solution, they didn't catch these people who were "tricking" them...

Yeah, the perfection of government under those who believe in it with all their hearts is a lamentable fantasy that is harmful and foolish. It doesn't take Rs to show that government is inefficient and incapable, it proves that time and again regardless of who is in charge.

People who believe in the government like they think others believe in the companies (we don't), are constantly on the wrong side of the argument. The perfect government with supermajorities and everything, wasn't capable of seeing through the ruse. To the contrary, they were so fooled as to allow drilling where even the Rs hadn't....

1) The price of oil spiked after the rig exploded. Over the last two days it has come back down in value due to the spike in the dollar (caused by the flight from EU)

I spoke to one of my clients who is a geologist. He said the most likely cause of the explosion was due to the 'drilling muds not being the right weight and that they likely hit an over pressurized zone in the thick sediment.'

I drive a car, but I also live .37 miles from work and walk many days.

I am for the government making excessive amounts of insenatives for the development of alternative fuel sources, and I have supported the use of my tax dollars for the R&D into alternative fuel sources.

I belive that the money we poured into Iraq would have delt a bigger blow to the terrorists had it been used to promote alternative sources of energy and energy independence.
