For all you R's who blindly trust the oil Companies...

So I have a question for those of you who belive that the price of oil is simply set by supply and demand.... and not fixed by the oil companies/government.

Why when one ship of oil spilled its load, the Exxon Valdze, did the price of gas JUMP within a few days, yet when this rig exploded and was rendered unoperational.... not a blip?

Could it be that they already have the price of oil at the breaking point and cant get away with it just now?

My understanding is, this rig was drilling an exploratory well, not a production well. If true, this could perhaps be the difference.

Jarod, stick to law you are that dumb on economics.

You keep saying that, but you are the one who buys the line from the Oil Companies.....

One ship did not cause nationwide oil prices to jump and neither should one rig, or one hurricane, unless the oil companies can create the impression that supply has been affected.

Do you have some evidence of a price jump after the Exxon Valdez spill? I don't remember one.

why in your pea brain is oil any different than say orange juice or tennis shoes. The price is set by the market and the market only junior.

to think they dont manipulate prices is kinda silly.

They do EVERYTHING they can to make more money.

They would surely NOT be above manipulating pricing.

They didnt put another shutoff valve on the rig to save a few coins, what makes you think they would be above manipulating prices?

Corporations are there to make money, its their only reason to exsist.

They will do anything if we let them.

Its our job to make sure what they do for money doesnt kill people and entire ecosystems.

They should have to accept any and every stipulation the American people want to put on their endevors.

They will not police themselves so its OUR task to police them to protect ourselves from their attempts to make yet more money.

Its well past time for all thinking people to accept these facts of life.

Agreed with all except your loney we can control the price. I'd like it to be $300 barrell and $6 gallon but it's not.
Can we do it more safely? Of course we can, let's skull drag BP into bankrupcy then enact double saftey mechanisms and double hull tankers. I mean Brazil and Norway require automatic shut off switches and we don't .
Come on Man, Brazil!!!

It is well past time to believe wholeheartedly that the government can control markets to the level you seem to think they can without negative impact on the consumer, the markets, and any economic growth. It is much too easily pointed to in history how inefficient and incapable they are. What do you think they should do? Sickle and Hammer their way into a five-year plan?

They didn't add a valve that was required by the government in the building of their platform. The government said they should, doesn't that mean it is magically there? Obviously the government rules weren't the magically delicious salvation that you seem to think they are.

That shit happens when you elect people who scream that government can do nothing right.

We should never again elect an asshole who says shit like the scariest words you can hear are "Im from the government and Im here to help".

No endevor of man is perfect yet the attempts of industry to make yet a couple more bucks are often deadly and costly.

Do the police catch every criminal? No

Does that mean they should disband? no

The problem, Desh, is the person elected says the government is the first solution to every problem and still didn't get it right. 1998... That's when this project started, the valve should have long been installed before 2001 when it ended. Why didn't the government, in its ever-present perfection during elected D Presidential years, figure out that they weren't doing what they were supposed to?

The laws you wanted are already in place, it's the fact that the government is inefficient and incapable that you should be lamenting, not the fact that there needs to be still more rules that they won't enforce.

So, what we have here is evidence that even those who believe that the government is the fantasy-land perfect creation of all things good, when in office still can't get it to actually function efficiently enough to enforce the simplest of regulations. And what is your solution? Add more regulations and attempt to control the market through price controls. Do you know who the last President who did that was? And do you know the effect it had?

Who said that the Government is the first solution to every problem?

why in your pea brain is oil any different than say orange juice or tennis shoes. The price is set by the market and the market only junior.

Because, pea brain, anyone can grow an orange tree, and many could start a tennis shoe factory, but the government has protected the oil manufactures and they have gotten so rich that they fix the supply to be able to raise the price.

The big issue is however, that all of them, the orange juce companies and the tennis shoe factories are out there looking to ensure that noone is starting an orange juce company or a shoe factory. If they do, then the big guys will, buy them out, or make it impossable for the new guy to compiete... so that the bug guys can keep the prices artifically high.

Who said that the Government is the first solution to every problem?
Desh for one.

I opine that any elected official whose first response to any issue is, "What law should we pass?" 'says' that as well.

The reality is, laws were in place that were supposed to be followed. Had they been followed this problem would have been a minute and passing problem. Instead, because they weren't there is a huge issue.

No new law has to pass to prevent this in the future, we just need to make sure that the company who built this without the required safety mechanisms, and those who made those decisions for that company, pay for their flaunting of the law.

your a retarded ahole, our industry has lost more jobs since Jimma Carta than almost any other. Your too economically stupid to figure energy is strategic. Maybe you can sink your libbytard brain around it not being better for us to pollute third world countries for YOUR DRIVING HABBITS. tool:321:

And if we had elected people who desired to actually police this industry instead of not inforcing the exsisting laws then maybe it would have worked out better.

When you hire idiots who think their job is a joke you get these types of results.

Want better inforcement of the exsisting laws then dont hire people who think government IS the problem.
