Florida Gov. DeSantis proves the naysayers wrong

So, shut down the country from October > March every year in the future and have people die THAT way if you prefer.
There will still be people dying due to flu anyway, but you'll get the thousands more as a bonus from cancelled medical
procedures, depression, stress, drugs, abuse in the home they're locked up in, etc.

Don't presume to know what I support. I realize that it's a balance. I have always felt that shutting down had its time limits, and I understand fully the ill effects of letting the economy slide like this. I support reopening now.

I think sometimes both sides get caught up in thinking it's a no brainer - like, of course we have to shut down, or of course we CAN'T shut down. It's just not that simple. It's always been a balance of trying to preserve life & slow the spread, and not letting the economy go down so far that it might not make it back.

And I'm not sure how you can say Trump was "right." He's been all over the place on this, as usual. Supporting shutdowns one day, and then tweeting "Liberate Michigan!" the next day. He certainly keeps the country on its toes.

Yeah. It zipped right by you.

No it didn't. It was completely unrelated to the fact that Florida will have the largest number of new cases ever today. Some of those people will die. Most won't. So?? Did you have a point?

The balance is this. We were told to shut down the country for 2 weeks. Did that.
Distance yourself from others. Did that.
Wear a mask. Did that.
Don't go to church. Did that.
Don't go to the beach. Did that.
Don't go to restaurants. Did that.
Don't shake hands anymore. Did that.
Don't go to work. Did that.
Add more people to the unemployment rolls. Did that.
Put a thriving economy on life support. Did that.
Flatten the curve so hospitals won't be overwhelmed. Did that!

Two months later, as more people get tested, the more cases are going to appear. (Logic)
So let them appear, get it over with instead of dragging out the inevitable which is that
some more people may die with/from Covid......yet more will recover.
Get on with life.

So, what are you 2nd guessing or disagreeing with exactly? Please be specific.

So, with the big spikes we're now seeing in FL, they're now saying that FL could be the new epicenter for COVID.

Meanwhile, NY - where Cuomo and "blue state governance" got so much criticism - has dropped dramatically and is now one of the lowest states in terms of spread.

Will anything be learned from this on the national level in terms of behaviors we should encourage and abide by? Likely not, but one can hope.

They didn't just jump the gun on this thread, they jumped the gun, mugged it, stole its wallet and stomped it into oblivion. Florida is now the epicenter of the crisis, and with the number of elderly in the state, it's a recipe for disaster. There is a lab that's doing rapid testing on employees and patrons of the jax beach bars. They say they've seen AT LEAST 50 positives. The beach area bars and restaurants will almost certainly have to shut down again.

I don't think they will shut down no matter how many die. The election is in 5 months. They will simply lie about cases and deaths.

It's pretty hard to lie about what happened at Jax Beach. I'm sure they'll try, but it will be hard to ignore the body bags.

They will and do it easily. Deaths are not important to this admin, or his followers..Until it is them. Lives are cheap to Trump. DeSantis is a Trump suckup.

The eight highest daily counts of new cases in Florida have occurred in the last eight days. I think that's a spike, no? The three highest daily counts of new cases in Duval County (Jacksonville) have occurred in the last three days. Again, I'm pretty sure they call that a spike. Great Job Governor DeSantis!! Thanks President Trump!!

Do you think this growing batch of young infected have all squat to do with opening up a month ago?
