Florida Gov. DeSantis proves the naysayers wrong

Cats are wearing coronavirus masks in China

As the deadly coronavirus outbreak continues to ravage the country, pet owners in China are putting on makeshift masks on their furry friends.

Photos on the Chinese social media app Weibo show pets – namely cats – wearing the makeshift masks, many of them made from traditional surgical masks. Owners are cutting holes in the material to accommodate the animal’s eyes while the rest of their face remains covered.

The photos of the new trend surfaced after China's National Health Commission said the coronavirus could affect cats and dogs, The Sun reported. But is it true pets can catch the novel coronavirus, known as COVID-19?

It’s not likely — according to the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.

“Coronaviruses occur in virtually every species of animal, including humans, and are commonly associated with unapparent or transient intestinal and respiratory infections. They tend to be very species-specific and cross-species transmission is uncommon,” the school said on its website earlier this month.

The same appears to be true for dogs. Even though canines can contract certain coronaviruses, according to the American Kennel Association “at present, there is no evidence that companion animals/pets such as dogs or cats can be infected with the new coronavirus,” the World Health Organization (WHO) recently said.

What’s more, there’s little evidence that surgical masks do much good in protecting humans for spreading or acquiring illnesses, an infectious disease doctor previously told Fox News. Surgical masks, which cover the nose and mouth, are often made from a flimsy material and aren’t fitted to the face. Spaces and gaps can form around the cheeks and edges of the mouth, making it easy for air to move in and out.

And some don't, but, of course, they don't matter.

No person has a plan yet for a 100% survival rate for this or any disease. That bottom line on the graph
looks wonderful compared to a lot of other diseases I've seen.

I finally realized this morning that stretch is functionally retarded, so I finally put him/her/it on ignore. When you don't understand the difference between the most common occurring value and the average value, and you seem confused when it's explained to you, you are mentally deficient. It's not an insult. It's an observable fact. Different than most Trumptards who are intentionally ignorant, this one is can't help it. Sad. I have no idea why you'd want to come to a board like this and embarrass yourself. Doesn't matter at this point. You cannot reason with a two year old, so I won't bother trying any longer.

It is extraordinary that some so-called Christians on this forum cannot find it in themselves to consistently comply with biblical restrictions against lying and libel - but they are totally capable of the mental discipline to practice consistency in defending every single thing their Orange God does.

One of the characteristics I admire the most in a person is the ability to admit they were wrong. It demonstrates self reflection, honesty and integrity. These people are the opposite of that. It's simple. I've been on these types of boards for years, and of course there are times when I just got it flat out wrong. There is not one time when I was unwilling to admit it. I gained respect from some posters for that. It never happens here. EVER.

A quarter of those who recover wind up with physical problems. We know they get lung damage. Now there are brain problems. They have an unusual number of strokes. Rightys are dismissive because Corona has been butchered by Trump. They do not want Trump to answer for his inability to handle the crisis. Let's just say a disease that hit 3 million Americans is no big thing. Sorry rightys, this is a major crisis that is far from over because Trump refused to respect it. He is still ignoring it. We have handled it worse than any country on the planet.

"Nearly 84% of Florida's ICU beds are filled amid rising coronavirus cases"

As the number of coronavirus cases continue to rise in Florida, the state is facing a shortage of available ICU beds. On Tuesday, when there were more than 7,300 new cases of the coronavirus reported, officials also reported that out of the state's 5,023 ICU beds in the state, just 962 are still available.

Out of Florida's 67 counties, 25 have at least one hospital with no ICU beds available as of Tuesday. Ten counties have less than 10% of their ICU beds available, and two counties have completely run out of adult ICU beds.

Florida, 8900 new cases, but even more alarmingly, 119 deaths. So that argument is about to go out the window too. What dumb fucking excuse will DeSantis come up with now while he completely ignores the disaster engulfing his state?

When we opened up hospitals a little while ago, it was to make room for others who needed care which had to be put their procedures on hold. (cancer, heart disease, etc.)
Should we just kick them out again and let THEM possibly die instead?

From your link......
"The hospital system is currently treating 316 patients with COVID-19, all of whom must be isolated and require those treating them to wear extra protective gear."
They can gear it back if necessary.

Central Florida’s largest hospitals out of ICU beds but say they can scale up if COVID-19 demand increases
Orlando Health can surge ICU capacity to 500 beds, officials say

ORLANDO, Fla. – Some of Central Florida’s largest hospitals are out of adult intensive care unit beds and running low on regular hospital beds, according to the Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration hospital bed dashboard. However, local hospitals say they can increase their capacity to meet coronavirus demand should the need arise.

In Seminole County, the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients reached a new record high on Tuesday, according to a news release from the county.

Official figures show there are 203 coronavirus patients hospitalized -- an increase of 40 compared to the previous record set over the weekend -- and hospital bed availability is down to 13%.

Central Florida Regional, Orlando Health South Seminole, AdventHealth Altamonte Springs, Encompass Health Rehabilitation hospital of Altamonte Springs, all have 0% ICU beds available. Oviedo Medical center has two ICU beds available, according to the AHCA hospital bed dashboard.

In Orange County, Orlando Regional Medical Center, Orlando Health-Health Central and Orlando Health Dr. Phillips Hospital are showing zero adult ICU beds available.

News 6 reached out to AdventHealth and Orlando Health, the regions largest healthcare providers, to verify if the state-run dashboard is an accurate reflection of local hospital capacity. According to the AHCA, the dashboard was updated as of Tuesday afternoon.

Orlando Health Director of Public Affairs Kena Lewis said the AHCA dashboard is up to date with information provided by the hospitals but the numbers don’t reflect the overall bed capacity because, if needed, they can scale up to meet increased demand.

“In mid-March, as patient volumes declined and fewer beds were needed, Orlando Health began consolidating units to reduce the number of beds – including ICU beds – that were staffed and in operation. The current operational bed count is what we report to AHCA and what appears on their website. That number is not Orlando Health’s total bed capacity. Across all of our operations, we have nearly 3,300 beds. Nearly 200 of those are ICU beds and we have the capacity to surge up to 500 ICU beds if it becomes necessary,” Lewis said in an email. “We are carefully monitoring the increases in patient volumes. If the need for additional beds grows, Orlando Health will re-open units and make other necessary adjustments in order to meet the needs of the community.

In response to inquiries, AdventHealth issued this statement:

“AdventHealth’s facilities across Central Florida have sufficient capacity to care for patients, including those with COVID-19. Our hospitals are designed in such a way that spaces are flexible and expandable. We have sufficient supplies of ventilators, monitors and other specialized equipment in order to quickly convert spaces in the hospital to both standard and ICU level rooms. We did a significant amount of planning in March and April to identify areas that could be converted if needed. AdventHealth also has an extensive health care system in place here in Central Florida so we can locate patients to the facility that best matches the level of care they need.”

Orange County health officer Dr. Raul Pino, with the Florida Department of Health, said on Monday that hospitalizations have increased locally in the past two weeks.

As of Monday, Pino said 357 people were hospitalized in Orange Country with coronavirus. He said that was an increase of 164 cases since June 28.

There are 72 people in Orange County ICU beds as of Monday, an increase of 35 cases since June 28, according to Pino.

Pino said although there has been an increase in COVID-19 cases in hospitalizations the healthcare systems in Central Florida are not at capacity. He said sometimes hospitals are able to add more beds as needed.

“The systems are reporting that they are not concerned about the need for a surge yet as a system,” Pino said. “It could be that a hospital have more cases in order and things have to be shuffled and readjust.”

He said as of Monday morning 500 hospital beds were available across Orange County, 499 ventilators and 50 ICU beds for adults and 46 pediatric beds.

Across the state since March 1, 16,425 people with COVID-19 have been hospitalized, on Tuesday the state reported 380 new hospitalizations. However, the Florida Department of Health has never reported the current number of hospitalized coronavirus patients.

More than 213,000 people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Florida since March and the state is approaching a death toll of 4,000 deaths with residents and non-resident fatalities.

56 Florida hospital ICUs are jammed and they are using triage on people arriving. Is that what DeSantis was correct about?

The Guv had it right.
Trump had it right.
Birx had it right.
Fake media and left got it wrong. All those predictions of gloom and doom for Florida seniors, especially in
The Villages.....no epidemic there. Our Guv put seniors first to protect them as opposed to NY where they
were offered up to be sacrificed. Now Mario 'Mengele' Cuomo blames the CDC guidelines.
People flocked here in droves to get out of the dark interior of their
virus-breeding houses and out into the fresh air and sunshine.
All those "smart college educated" NE lefties couldn't figure that out...it was too simple.
