Farmers Insurance pulls out of Florida, affecting 100,000 homeowners

I have been warning people for some time that living in a so-called Red State will not protect them from the Revolution.

Corporations have proven over and over again that they will sacrifice business and profits in order to punish enemies of the Revolution.

You have my attention. So State Farm is stopping new policies in California and Florida not because it's a good business decision but to punish enemies of the revolution? I'm guessing a lot of people would read that and not understand what that means, myself included. Is there a translation available?

Global warming is real and its impact is costly. It will be even more costly in the future. To stay in business, insurance companies will flee Florida.

TALLAHASSEE — Farmers Insurance Group announced Tuesday that it would no longer write new policies or renew existing homeowner, auto and umbrella policies, a day after Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis took to Twitter to threaten to take action if it did.

The decision affects some 100,000 homeowners, or about a third of its customers in Florida, who hold “Farmers-brand” policies, the Palm Beach Post reported.

“This business decision was necessary to effectively manage risk exposure,” the company said in a statement released to the Tampa Bay Times.

I switched away from Farmers just last week because they were so expensive.

It’s definitely happening. I’ve mentioned before the influx of people to our neck of the woods recently. We have maybe 150-200 people in our community…and more are coming. They keep coming. A friend of mine bought some land off of the beaten path and is building a new house there. He lives on the main road and the increased traffic is not something he wants to deal with. Makes me happy that I live where I live…we’ll off the beaten path.

Heh, we live in the Northwoods version of your area.

Thanks to a deliberate 30 year effort to deny climate change and stall any actions to mitigate and prepare for it.

Exactly. The insurance company bean-counters figured out a long time ago that climate change was real. That's a big reason why they are pulling out of high-risk areas like Florida and California.

I know more than a handful of people in the last two years who have paid off their mortgage and stop using homeowners insurance.

The DeSantis Florida is in a state of hurt. Insurers pulling out, conventions leaving, tourism declining, and residents getting fed up.

Yet people moving in. Refugees from NY mostly.
Isn't it one of the fastest growing states (if not the fastest)?

I agree.

I don't get involved too much in the who? or what? is causing all the warming of the planet arguments.

But, I do believe that the planet is warming regardless to who or what causes it, and these hurricanes are coming and getting bigger every year.

So, no! Living in Florida doesn't sound like a great idea to me! Their insurance rates have to be the highest in the nation now.

Growing up in N.O. and my mom's family all there, we went to FL alot when I was a kid. No big deal to me. The ocean breezes are nice but the rest of it is hot and humid like Louisiana.

Farmers behaviour in CA is not the same as FL.

for sure

We've had a pretty good idea that climate change was going to be a threat since the 1990s, but Biden is the first president to get a major federal climate adaptation initiative passed. It shouldn't have taken 30 years.

I had a career that took me everywhere eventually, except 4 states. I have never been to Maine, Florida, Hawaii, or Alaska.

And, I probably have no real reasons to go to any of them now. I am sure Florida is a neat place with beautiful beaches and all, but I am not really a beach kind of guy anyhoo! Take me to the Mountains, where I can flyfish!

If I was rich and famous … well, maybe just rich, AND if I were banished from Oklahoma I could live in Maine. It’s in my top 5 list of states for hypothetical relocation.

on one hand Floridians have to deal with a hurricane every year or so.........on the other hand, Chicagoans take their lives in their hands every time the go to the grocery store.......I think i will take hurricanes......
