FACT CHECK: Islam already lives near ground zero

WASHINGTON – A New York imam and his proposed mosque near ground zero are being demonized by political candidates — mostly Republicans — despite the fact that Islam is already very much a part of the World Trade Center neighborhood. And that Muslims pray inside the Pentagon, too, less than 80 feet from where terrorists attacked.

I have no idea if this is correct but I thought the issue was the building of this large center/"monument" if you will.
 
Yes, Islam is infiltrating everywhere. In our very own pentagon. AND they serve in our military too. Damn they are sneaking in a rear guard.

its already there...and its 80 feet from ground zero in the pentagon...what is the deal with the building? will it create more terrorists?

no, i know there are already mosque's there. I'm saying I thought the argument people against were making was that this was a large new center, a sort of monument if you will. Not just a small prayer place.

i see...i don't believe their intention is to mock the deaths on 9/11...its two blocks away....have you seen what else is around that block? it is no shrine to 9/11....

again, i'm not making any personal arguments here. I don't care about this issue. I'm just stating what I believe the people who don't want it there believe.

The area around the WTC has never been very nice. I saw Nigel's post but that's not the issue. I think they believe it is about putting a large new center so close to ground zero.

The fact is that a Mosque at this location is ridiculously redundant and therefor not neccesary. Add to that, the negative emotional symbol it represents to most people and you have an "in your face" result. As to the Pentagon aspect??? BFD absolutely NO correlation! No one is protesting the Muslim faith or there established practice of said faith...they protest the symbolic nature that "this mosque" would represent to them. The fact its dedication is planned for September 11th suggests a less than realistic sensitivity by those behind it.
 
I never thought the argument was about redundency but that it was the idea of building a large 'trophy' center so close to ground zero.

do you have a link to the sept. 11 dedication, because that speaks volumes....if true

other than that...how many churches are in NY? do you call them redundant? there is a correlation with the pentagon....a plane flew in there, why is it there is no issue with a muslims place to pray there?

so if a religion wants to build a church and its negative to most people....then that religion should not be able to build a church?

They're everywhere around my city.

I have a mosque about a mile away from me, and I hardley ever see any of them there.

This seems to be the case at other locations as well.

If you ask me, they're trying to grab up all the land they can buy.

I've also noticed that they don't associate with anyone outside their faith.

Neither do Mormons, and some Evangelical Christians, as well as the Jehovah Witness. They are encourage not to read any literature other than church sanctioned literature.


There are different sects of Islam, just like Christianity and Judaism. Conservative, liberal and moderate, zealot.
