In fact, if the electric grid goes down, you cannot pump gas either.

It is wrong. But that does not impact what you like. Rightys do not need the truth to like something. In view of the stats I showed a group of ICEs could b called a "bonfire".
 
Electric cars are probably the very near future,
and I understand the probably legitimate reasons for it.

I don't have to like it, though.
Just another diminishing aspect of the quality of life.

I wouldn't bring a son into a world where he will never hear the roar of a high compression V8 engine.

The world is literally full of electrical outlets. There is a severe limit on gas stations, so no options for an ICE. But even if there are no electrical outlets in your life (I cannot imagine that in modern America, but hypothetically speaking), then the fact that other customers have access to electricity mean that stations cannot charge too much.
