Add to this the distinction between a traitor and a terrorist. Not a lawyer, but anyone who took the oath and then sought to overthrow the Constitution is a traitor. Those who didn't take the oath are only terrorists or criminals. The cases focus upon sedition. I'm guessing because it's easier to prosecute.

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

Instead, he sought to overthrow the Constitution and install himself as head of the US government.

You asked what he deserved, not what he's going to get, neef.

He won't be hanged because our Congress is divided with half seeking to support ripping up the Constitution and the other half too weak to support it. An ankle monitor for life would probably be the best We, the People, could hope for since rich people wear ankle monitors and everyone else goes to prison.
