Let me put it this way. I was stationed overseas and the president was coming (I won't say which one). One of the guys hated him and casually remarked someone should shoot the SOB. Within a day guys with plastic ID cards showed up and questioned him for about 4 hours. The Secret service and FBI take this shit seriously.
 
Esper failed the purity test. He said one thing that was not 100 percent in back of trump. So he will be fired. Ivanka claims trump has people with differing views on board. That is so false. People with differing opinions are fired and insulted by Trump when he announces it.

I can see that in your scenario. 1) the guy has access to firearms, and 2) he's going to be in the vicinity of a president.

You miss the whole point. The Secret Service takes their job of protecting the president seriously. Any possible threat no matter how remote will be looked at. Do you honestly think they don't monitor these internet forums looking for possible terrorist or threats to the president. You may think I'm being paranoid but I have worked with these people and believe me it's not a joke to them. People think they are anonymous on the internet but they aren't.

I've seen a couple of articles that said Esper did not coordinate with the WH on his action. Past history has shown that Trump does not like his people making decisions without his approval. So I fully expect him to fire Esper.

I know we are not anonymous on the Innernetz but I'm pretty sure that they don't waste their time looking at every single forum, FB post, Snapchat or Instagram or Tweet or comments on news articles by viewers and so on. Now if someone made an actual threat here, i.e., "I've got a rifle and a scope and I'm taking it to DC to eradicate the problem" -- and someone reported it -- I'm sure that they would definitely take that quite seriously. But merely saying "___ needs to be eradicated" is not a credible threat, any more than the RWers here telling ppl to die or to kill themselves is a threat.
