Yes, I have. I understand the racial injustices within our court system. Both with convictions and with sentencing. But when looking at the prosecutions case, LEGALLY the jury had little choice but to acquit.
If you TRULY understand the racial injustices within our system, how do you so blindly defend what is 'legal' in a racist environment?
I asked you if you understood what I as a black father, who TRULY understands the injustices within the system, feel about this? I'm not asking you what you felt about the case, I'm asking you if you think I'm human, with strong emotions for the safety of my children?
Do you think I'm looney because I have strong feelings about this issue and see Trayvon Martin as I see one of my own?
Obviously I am a white guy... so my perception on the above is different. I simply do not see how this case is like the Till case, other than the fact the two victims were black teens. Till's murder was premeditated and based on pure hate. I know you think the Martin case is the same, but I am missing the evidence that it shows it was either premeditated or based on hate. Was he profiled? Yes. But in the past, Zimmerman had shown a reluctance to get close enough for a confrontation. That is evidenced by his previous 911 calls. This time it happened and as a result Martin died. It is tragic for certain. But that doesn't change what the prosecution presented. Based on that, I don't think the jury could do anything else under the law.
You don't want it to be like the Till case because you're a white guy who
wants to support the decision .. and because you
begin with that perspective, you can't see what is blindingly clear to those who actually know and have lived that history. How do you ignore that and claim you know better than those who lived it? How?
That comparison is being made all over the planet .. because it's obvious.
You claim to know of the racism that exists in this country and Florida .. and I believe that you do .. yet, you ignore that there is all manner of evidence that could have EASILY convicted Zimmerman. EASILY. You ignore the disparities between success in 'stand your ground' defenses. You ignore that racism very well could have played a role in this case.
Most importantly, you ignore the truth that
it isn't about the law .. it never is .. it's about the
application of the law.
Case in point .. white people are the biggest drug users, sellers, and importers of illegal drugs than any other group in America .. BY FAR. Yet, that is not reflected in arrests, prosecutions, parole, or sentencing. Why is that? Same laws, same courts.
It's not about the law, it's about equal application which rarely happen in this country.
Sanford tried and convicted Trayvon Martin of being a threat because he was black.
Which is why the Black Caucus in DC is trying to get the laws changed with regards to profiling etc...
Fuck them. This should have been on the top of their agenda long before this case.
To be fair to 'this side of the fence' ... it is hard to debate when out of the gate we are called racists and told that it is because of 'white privilege'.
How about you don't go there? You can't be serious when you know what's being said about 'liberals' on your side of the fence. I'm not whining about any of that, so you shouldn't go there either in
