alcohol may be the leading drug of choice or cause, but even over the counter drugs like antihistamines or decongestants can cause a driver to be impaired, but you are correct, drunks are the leading cause of duis

i agree with you...i didn't mean to say that we should allow any impairment, rather, i meant only to point out how stupid it is that marijuana is an illegal drug and yet alcohol related accidents far out number, the point of absolute absurdity, any drug related accidents, including marijuana and the drugs you listed

your point is fair watermark....however...speed, cocaine, crack....if those drugs (all really a family of each other) are done for a period of time, the result is as bad as alcohol.....because you are awake for days and the impairment is significant....fortunately, many just get tired and go to sleep, unfortunately, there are many who combine one or more of those drugs with alcohol and the results are disasterous.

alcohol is still the number one drug that causes automobile deaths....IMO....if there were tests available for other drugs like there is for alcohol, we would see the stats change....probably not much...but the stats would change

i don't know what dmt is....but i have in fact driven on LSD...every time i took a hit....i only tried it a few times, in HS and shortly after, i was the only one anyone "trusted" to drive while under the influence

I dunno, maybe if you took speed to stay up for days on end you would be as impaired alcohol. Alcohol is definitely up there with it anyway.

For example, in cases of DWI it's assumed the driver intentionally drove and was aware and responsible for their decision. Compare that to a woman who has sex while intoxicated. In certain jurisdictions the man can be charged with rape as it's considered the woman was not capable of making a decision.

So, which is it? Is a person aware and making a conscious choice or not?

I've never said anything before but my younger brother was killed by a drunk driver just over 4 years ago as he was crossing a road. So I have to say that your comments are in very poor taste. The driver eventually got two years for the crime but it hardly makes up for it.

That is truly terrible. I'm so sorry to hear it.

Getting two years for homicide by vehicle is a travesty. I hope this person is haunted for the rest of his life that his actions resulted in the death of an innocent person.

WM was just doing his usual thing but he caught me at a bad time whilst I was thinking about my brother,. Thanks for your comments though we'd had our differences but things like that make you realise how weird and strange life can be.

The guy that did it was a bit of a loner and he had previous form for driving offences, he'd previously been in prison for assault.
