Not to try and put lipstick on a pig lol, but Russia under Putin is a different animal than the old Soviet Union. So there can't be a Cold War, per se: the actors have changed.
I don't trust him but he's better than some of the other actors on the stage.
we're in a New Cold War. Putin is the same as the old Soviets.
Does he have reason to chaffe with NATO expansion tightly around his neck? I think so.
But is he willing to undermine the Ukraine gov't ( we do it too) and essentially control the east while seizing Crimea-
all the while exposing his "gas station economy" to crippling sanction? yes indeed.
We and the USSR ( sorry - "mother Russia") are careening down a path where we probe each other with Putin flyovers,
and US/NATO heavy naval presence in the Black Sea. NATO war games right on the Russian border.
Somebody's gonna slip up, and get hurt badly.. and gawd knows where that leads to.
The "Russian reset" was supposed to be a chance for a new Glasnost -instead because Clinton and Obama
will not recognize he fact Russia DOES HAVE legitimate concerns/spheres, it was just another silly misadventure.
"Mono-polar" means the US doesn't see Russian territorial interests as legitimate as western -
but of course we still demand cooperation on terrorism.
"Multi-polar" means seeing China and Russia for what they are, and not letting the New Cold war, become the same
ratchetted tensions/hair trigger of the Old Cold War.
