I am not at war with the Muslims, but I do want radical terrorist stopped and prosecuted! I also want those sponsoring them to be prosecuted! And I mean prosecuted!
The Fed should have the power to make such decisons?

You want to stop people from being able to build their church on land they own, because people of the same religion as them attacked us.
By that logic, we should restrict catholic churches from being built anywhere near schools or other places that children gather. And certainly we should ban all catholic schools.
So you belive it is something the Presidenet should get involved in? Really? You want the leader of the federal government bullying local government like that?
ON what basis should the local government deny the right to build a church in this location? What basis that does not voiolate the US Consititution?
Not just Catholics, all Christians. They are all the same religen arnt they? Catholics are just a more radical branch....

Read the 10th Amendment. The States or local governments can do pretty much what they want. New Yorkers overwhelmingly don't want this. Their government failed them.

What New Yorkers want doesn't matter. You cannot single out a particular religion for persecution based on mob rule.
Their gov't is certainly not failing them. Their gov't is applying the laws evenly.
THe states and local governments cant violate the first amendment.
Telling a religous institution it cant build a place of worship in a place where other religens would be allowed is a violation of the 1st.

So zone it for no religious buildings. Look, I agree that it is tenuous at best to restrict the building of a place of worship, but this is clearly a "fuck you" to the people of New York by the radical Muslim world. Don't pretend that its not.

Not by my logic. I am not the one condemning an entire religion based on the actions of an extreme minority.
You have done that. So it is YOUR logic that goes there.
So you are the one who would have public schools closed too?
From what I hear, it is not intended as a "fuck you". They may be taking it that way, and I can understand why an uneducated person might belive that.
Regardless if it is a "fuck you" or not, we should no be violating out principals, our very Constitution, to prohibit it, we should just stand strong and say, you have that right and we are strong enough to take it. Implicit in that attitude is, thats why we are better than many Middle Eastern nations, we dont let religen take over reason.
I bash Catholics too, and I was one for 40 years because they turned a blind eye to the problem! Pray, pay and obey! and it is just what the majority of them do...
So if you zone it for "no religous buildings" they would have to raze St. Patricks Cathedral. You would be okay with that?
