not "cloth" that is a debasement of the flag "and for which it stands"Are you kidding me?
You think they'd say they were putting the lives on the line for cloth, and not what that cloth represents?

I don't think it's as divided as it seems on the surface. I think most of us are patriotic and value being an American. This thread has already been pretty illuminating.
There are really profound differences of opinion regarding what it means to be an American.
well the flag is a symbol, and symbols have great powers.Exactly. What it REPRESENTS.
You're getting it now.

What i'm trying to to say-since i think your thread motivation is a sincere debate-is debasing the flag is more then debasing a "cloth"
one is then debasing the symbol of being an American. Obviously it's a piece of cloth ( made in China. lol)
but the symbolism of the USA transcends that little cloth
As a former soldier, I would for what it represents! Freedom of the press, freedom to worship or not at all, freedom of speech[FONT=Roboto, arial, sans-serif], free of assembly, freedom to protest and petition, to name a few!

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness according to the Declaration .But what is it a symbol of? What does it represent?
Obviously, the flag represents all kinds of different things to different people. But I'd be surprised if we couldn't find a consensus that the top of the list would be LIBERTY.
That picture could support either view, imo. When I see it, I go right to what that flag represents.
Otherwise, it's just a piece of cloth.
Are you kidding me?

OF COURSE the flag represents America! Geeeeeeesh, what's your problem?![]()
your brain is dead
they fight for the people
when they breathed their last breath they did not imagine the flag
they imagined the people they fought for
wives , daughters, sons, brothers
the flag is a piece of cloth
you must be a russian RM
And America is about liberty.
You don't seem to have grasped that yet.
Discuss.
The flag represents what is being fought for, except to fucktards like you
Yes. So? Get to the point already. What did you see here posted anywhere by anybody who argues with that?
You chum the waters here evidently looking for just the right fish...so what's the right fish? Lots of people have given their specific viewpoint on this "discussion"...except you.
It's not trolling. It's just going to the heart of what it means to be American. Nothing is really being said that I didn't know, but I think it's an interesting discussion.
Exactly. What it REPRESENTS.

Maybe, or maybe not.
I suspect that soldiers as individuals are too complex in their motivations to pigeonhole.
Does anyone seriously think that there is a standard philosophical reason for enlisting in the armed forces?
Perhaps an estrogen-enriched soy boy like Thingy believes that people line up at recruitment stations to defend the right of pro athletes to kneel for a few seconds a week.
If so, I invite him to prove it, and I'll understand if if he can't.
Likewise anyone one who thinks people are consciously deciding to enter the service to protect a scrap of fabric or some notional ideas of "patriotism".
Everyone has their own reasons.
Silly thread by a silly man.
