How and why are these lawyers being paid. I am not the type that just accepts the fact they are getting this money, I want to know why they are getting the money and how they are getting it.
Two of my friends used a company to help them handle the disability process. The company took a percentage of the back disability pay up to a certain maximum amount (about $5000 or so)
So if it took you a few years to get on disability - which gets back-dated to when you first applied - the company maxes out the amount; otherwise it's a smaller amount. There are rules and regs around how much they can take.
Another profit-driven industry feeding off the Treasury....
Check out the first post in the this thread by annata, it's a transcript from the program. It interviews judges who talk about the lawyers and their pay and type of injuries people claim to have.
Cawacko, I found the information, thank you, you may now get over it.

Obviously how I stated my comments came across different than intended. I apologize for that.
Pure Gestapo rightyWrong; you confuse this leftist buffoon as being someone who was honestly seeking information. There's nothing honest about leftists. But you will learn this with time. She should be appologizing to you for being the uninformed partisan condescending buffoon she is.
Quite the cottage industry used to bilk the tax payers out of billions in false claims and enrich the lawyers.

Thank you! I found this on the SS site. I just thought the person who watched the program could answer.
My friend with seizures needs disability. He can not get a job or keep one because of his seizures. His family members supply his rent and food, but they need help with his medications which are ungodly.
And in a ten minute segment they can only get into so much detail. They didn't break down whether the lawyers get their fee all at once after winning the case or whether its paid out over time. The emphasis was more on that a billion dollars was paid to lawyers last year from the fund and was clearly lucrative enough that more and more lawyers are trying to get involved (and not in a good way).
My friends used AllSup -www.allsup.com They were great
My understanding is that there are limits on how much the lawyers and companies can get.
In the cases I know of, the fee was paid out of the retroactive pay - a percentage of it up to a certain max.
It's big business, I see ads on TV, the internet, etc. At one time geting Disability was more difficult; now it seems the floodgates are open.I'm sure the contingency fee for lawyers varies depending on the case. For instance my wife and her siblings are in a fight against her mom's ex-boyfriend and my wife's lawyers contingency fee is 40%.
The purpose of this piece done by 60 Minutes was showing the amount of money attorneys have received which continues to drive them to this industry.

can't say for sure, but if I'm seeing ads for atty's in droves; chances are applicants are getting approved in droves..
Aren't lawyers associations big donors to the Democrat Party?
