There were 10 Democrats running in states Trump won in 2016.
He flipped just 3 of them. And he lost Arizona and Nevada.

And the FL race was the closest in the state's history. With 1.4 million ex-felons getting their voting rights back, Florida looks unwinnable for Trump in 2020. 2018 was probably the last time Republicans will win major statewide offices.

The reason the GOP didn't run on the economy was because they knew their policies don't help the people they want voting for them. That's because fundamentally, Conservative policies never work. There are no merits or successes any Conservative can point to that came as a result of their policies. So the GOP can only get people to vote for it by using racism and bigotry to turn out their racist and bigoted base.
Fortunately, that base is dying and is being replaced with a decidedly much younger and more progressive base. That's how the Republican running for governor in !GEORGIA! barely won 50% of the vote in a state that hasn't voted Democratic since Max Cleland.

Economic indicators as unemployment and the Dow have been going in the right direction since 2011
As soon as the sugar high off the tax cuts burns off, as it is now reflected in the Market, the economy will backpedal, which then Trump will blame on the House Democrats
