Democrat Mary Peltola defeats Sarah Palin in special election for Alaska's House seat

I think most Alaskans are horrified at the thought of Peltola representing them.

And yet over 51% voted for her? If they keep up that "horror" for the next two months, then Peltola will win again.

Peltola is from Bethel, a deep blue, authoritarian Native town on the tundra that exists solely because of federal government money.

Peltola is a Yup'ik, a tribe that has been in the Bethel area 10,000 years before the federal government even existed. They stay there because it is their home.

all I need to do is point to either RCP or 538......
both show they are working from the starting point of Republicans taking the House in November.......the only question is how many additional seats they will take.....

They say there are better than even odds that Republicans will win the House in November, and I agree. It is far from certain, and the odds of Republicans winning are dropping quickly. We will have to wait and see how it all turns out.

Again, you have no proof of the certainties you claim.

I think most Alaskans are horrified at the thought of Peltola representing them. As repulsive as Palin is, she would at least represent AK’s best interests.
I personally will change my voting to select Palin as my second choice in November.

However, Palins negatives are so high and so intense there may be a lot of Begich voters that will not bring themselves to make her their second choice.

You know nothing about Alaska
You know nothing about Peltota

Your opinion is less than meaningless.

its dripping from your ceiling, cuntselor......you do realize that the winner in this election serves until January when they will be replaced by whoever gets elected in November. This strange special election pitted two Republicans against one demmycrat.......that won't be true in November......

that's right, democrats are getting dumber by the day

Maybe Palin can run again, and see how it turns out.

In the first round, you are correct... BUT THEN THERE WAS THE SECOND ROUND USING THE SECOND CHOICES!!! If the Republican voters were split, they would have picked one Republican for the first choice, and the other as a second choice. The fact is they were not split.

She probably will with Trump's backing.

Ranked voting is a great way to go. I prefer it as the initial voting procedure.

TBH, Pedo Don racists don't care. All they care about is seizing and holding power over all Americans and turning the US into a One Party state.

There is some innovation going on in voting, which kind of surprises me. I thought we had gone as far as we had gone, and everything had been thought out. I like it.

I also like what the Germans are doing. They are allowing parties to use votes that were cast in districts they did not win. So if a party gets 40% of the vote in every district, they get representation even though they lost every district.

Interesting. IMO, ranked voting coupled with neutral party redistricting would be a great move forward for democracy in the US.

That's the beauty of ranked choice voting. It also makes 3rd parties more competitive. I see so many people on both sides of the aisle that are tied of the 2 party system, and yet at least here in Tennessee, our R heavy state legislature outright banned ranked choice voting.

RW fascism. They're afraid of losing and will lie, cheat and steal to win all elections.

You are right that this appears better. But, even neutral party redistricting can ignore well distributed parties, and under represent highly concentrated parties. I think there might be even better.

Any improvements should be done slowly, and incrementally. We should really work out they are improvements. But I do see a real possibility for improvements.

Indeed.

Jarod is a confirmed liar.

Any changes have to be in compliance with the Constitution. The Democrat idea of eliminating the Electoral College is a pipe dream because they could never get it passed. Better, IMO, to focus on what is attainable, not what they dream would be a good thing.

Ranked voting is doable. Removing the EC from the Constitution is not, at least for the next few decades....unless the Republicans get their Fascist State, then, yes, the EC will be gone. LOL

This is nothing but special election , which split the GOP vote, and is only valid until the real election in November.

The November election will be this same election, with the same candidates, and process, just two months later. The only thing that will change in those two months is that Peltola will be more known, and seem more reasonable.

There is one other thing that will change, that might give you hope. Turnout will probably be higher in a November election. But that means more moderates, who really do not want a fascist like Palin.
